Four fixtures are lined up for the Kenya 7s sides on Sunday in the final day of the opening leg of the HSBC SVNS 2 2026 which is being staged at the Kenya’s Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
The two-day global showpiece delivered everything on Saturday, from electrifying performances on the pitch to the vibrant fans who turned out in large numbers to rally behind the national sides, the Kenya Lionesses and the men’s team, Shujaa.
Shujaa head into day two determined to preserve their perfect home record after a gripping opening day that saw them remain unbeaten.

HSBC SVNS 2 Nairobi Day One Wrap
They began their promotion campaign to the top tier in emphatic fashion, brushing aside a resilient Canada 29-12 on Saturday morning before they then ran riot against Belgium, scoring five unanswered tries in a commanding 33-0 triumph.
Their final match of the day was against a daring Germany side that pushed them to the brink.

After conceding two early tries, Shujaa mounted a spirited comeback to force a 10-10 draw in regular time, sending the clash into sudden death.
Kevin Wambua’s charges rose to the occasion, with Festus Shiasi slicing through the German defence to dot down the decisive try and seal a 15-10 victory.

Shujaa HSBC SVNS 2 Nairobi Day Two preview
On Sunday, Shujaa have two more assignments and will be eager to wrap up the home leg in style before the circuit moves to Montevideo, Uruguay, and later concludes in São Paulo, Brazil, in this round-robin campaign.
They will first take on Uruguay 7s on Sunday afternoon from 12:50 before concluding the day against a strong side USA at 5:02pm.
Uruguay will be coming into this day two seeking nothing short of redemption after falling short twice in day one.
They opened their campaign with a narrow 14-19 loss to Germany before they also fell 14-17 to USA.

Their only win of the day was against Belgium where they thrashed them 38-14 in the final match which will carry their confidence into Sunday’s fixtures as they aim to make things right.
Shujaa and Uruguay are no strangers in this world of Rugby as they have faced each other especially in the World Rugby Challenger series and also they have met recently in the Paris 2024 Olympics games thus each side will be aiming to prove themselves as the better side in this encounter.
For USA just like Kenya they carry their momentum into day two after managing to end day one also unscathed.
They launched their quest for a return to the top flight with a dominant 40-0 win over Belgium, edged Uruguay 17-14 in a tightly contested duel, and later cruised to a 41-7 demolition of Canada.
Shujaa and the USA are no strangers on the HSBC circuit, and Wambua’s charges will be eager to avenge their most recent meeting, where the Eagles mounted a comeback to snatch a narrow 17–12 victory at the 2025 Los Angeles 7s.
Tries from Kevin Wekesa and Patrick Odongo had handed Kenya a first-half advantage. However, Porter Goodrum – who misses out this time, crossed for a brace, while Jake Broselle sealed the comeback with the decisive try that saw Kenya concede defeat.
With both teams having faced off periodically over the years, each will be aiming to wrap up this first leg of the HSBC SVNS 2 on a high note as they push for a return to HSBC SVNS 1.
Kenya Lionesses Day Two preview
Meanwhile in the women’s category Kenya Lionesses have all to play for in day two after day one went south on them.
Despite opening their campaign with a narrow 12-15 win over Brazil they fell short in their next two matches a narrow 15-12 loss to China and 12-10 to Africa rivals South Africa.
Thus they will be looking forward to improve especially in their attacks and defence when they open day two against a dominant Argentina side who did not lose any of their three matches on day one as both lock horns at 11:44am.

Then they will wrap up this home leg with a fixture against Spain who also come into this day two with just one victory that is against China 21-0.
After Nairobi, the competition will move to Montevideo, Uruguay, before concluding in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
At the end of the three legs, the top four teams will join the top 8 teams for three legs in the World Championships Series. The top 8 out of 12 will book their places in SVNS Division 1 for 2027.
