Gor Mahia brace for 2026 FKF Cup clash against giant killers BB Bread

Gor Mahia assistant coach Kobi Bismarck Mensah has expressed high confidence in the squad’s potential to lift the 2026 FKF up final following their 2-0 victory over Dero FC.

Speaking after the Round of 64 clash at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu, Mensah pointed out that the team possesses the depth and quality necessary to go all the way in the competition.

“It’s very possible because we have the materials to play in the final. It’s just a matter of playing one game after the other,” Mensah noted.

The Ghanaian tactician highlighted the club’s impressive form since the turn of the year as a testament to their silverware ambitions. According to Mensah, the statistics reflect a team that is finding its rhythm at the perfect time.

“Looking at how we’ve started the year, it shows clearly that we want to do something this season. In those six games, we scored 15 goals and conceded only four. So it shows clearly that the team is on a very good path,” he added highlighting K’Ogalo’s impressive attack.

Despite the comfortable scoreline against Dero FC, Mensah admitted that the match presented a big challenge primarily due to the playing surface in Kisumu.

He praised his players for adapting to the difficult environment to secure the result.

“The match yesterday was very difficult. Looking at the pitch, it wasn’t the kind of ground that we usually play on. It was very bumpy and uneven. But we were able to score two goals.

We had chances to score even more, but in the end, we won 2-0 and qualified for the next stage,” the assistant coach explained after goals from Levin Joseph and Samuel Kapen secured victory for the record SportPesa League champions.

While the K’Ogalo faithful are already dreaming of silverware including cup trophy, Mensah maintained that the coaching staff remains focused with the immediate tasks rather than dreaming about what the future holds

“Fans are looking at the final, but we as coaches, we look at the next game. We don’t know who we are playing yet, but whoever it is, we will prepare well to make sure we win and move to the next stage,” he concluded.

Gor Mahia will be looking to erase the painful memories of the 2025 edition of the FKF Cup.

Last season, the Charles Akonnor managed side suffered a shocking and historic 2-1 defeat in the final to Nairobi United at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

That loss not only denied K’Ogalo a piece of silverware but also marked the conclusion of a rare trophyless season, leading to a complete overhaul of the technical bench led by then head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno.
