Tusker FC head cocah Charles Okere

Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere has issued a rallying to his squad, calling for immediate defensive improvement and clinical finishing ahead of their Round 18 Sportpesa League clash against KCB at the Kasarani Annex on Sunday.

The Brewers enter the second leg of the season under significant pressure after a bruising start to 2026, which saw the 12-time champions suffer back-to-back defeats against AFC Leopards and Bandari FC.

Reflecting on the team’s recent slump, Okere admitted that the side has struggled to find its rhythm in the new year.

“We started 2026 on a slow note, losing to AFC Leopards and Bandari, but we have been striving in training to improve,” Okere stated.

The coach highlighted that the technical bench has spent the week addressing lapses in concentration, particularly in the backline that has shipped six goals in just two matches in 2026

“We have tried to address areas that have been of concern especially defending. We have conceded six goals in two games which is not our standard. We have also worked on improving offensively because we haven’t been scoring as much, either. We are getting chances but haven’t been utilizing them,” he added.

To rectify these issues, the coaching staff has engaged in both individual and group tactical sessions, aiming to sharpen the players’ decision-making during moments that decide the outcome of matches.

“We have talked to individual players, applied group and team tactics to see where we improve on and get the moments right. Football is a game of moments and when you switch off, you are punished by the opponent.”

The upcoming fixture against KCB offers a chance for Tusker to settle a score, having lost 2-0 to the Bankers in their season opener.

That defeat was marked by a missed penalty from Kapaito,a result Okere views as a missed opportunity that set a difficult tone for the first leg.

“Second leg is like starting afresh again, we lost 2-0 to KCB in the first match of the season, missed a penalty in that game. In open play, they have a good attack, experienced, they attack in numbers; for us is how we counter it now, we know how they are going to approach the game.”

Okere remains confident that the work done behind the scenes will show on the pitch at Kasarani Annex

“It will be a tough game but we will be ready to match them on the pitch.”
