Additionally, the government has pledged its support to the historic Wimbledon junior champion following public concern on social media.
In an interview with SportPesa’s Sports Editor Stephen Ochieng’, Okutoyi had appealed for sponsorship:
“I don’t have any type of sponsorship right now, but any kind of support, mainly financial, would help me travel to play various tournaments. I also hope corporations can support tennis in Kenya and help host bigger events here, so I don’t have to travel abroad. Anyone out there willing, I will be grateful,” Okutoyi expressed with humility after her four-title victory in Nairobi.
In response, the government, through the Ministry of Sports led by Salim Mvurya, confirmed she will now receive the support needed to advance her career to higher levels.
“I have received Angella Okutoyi’s appeal and spoken to the Kenya Tennis Federation leadership. Angella is a remarkable Kenyan talent whose journey continues to inspire many young athletes across the country,” Mvurya stated.
“As a Ministry, we will be engaging the Tennis Federation of Kenya to explore immediate support options and ensure she is well prepared and financially supported ahead of her next tournament in May.”
