The national women’s sevens team, Kenya Lionesses, will travel to Spain for a high-performance training camp as part of their preparations ahead of their participation in the 2026 HSBC SVNS 2 campaign kicking off in February.
A strong squad of 14 players will depart for Alicante on 26th January to take part in a one-week camp, before returning to Kenya on 31 January 2026.

The squad was chosen following an intensive training block, with the coaching and high-performance staff rewarding individuals who demonstrated consistency, resilience, and strong on-field performances.
The selection also reflects a commitment to recognizing standout performers from recent competitions, including the Safari Sevens and Africa Sevens tournaments held earlier in 2025, where the Lionesses excelled.

Speaking ahead of the high-profile camp, Kenya Lionesses interim coach Simon Odongo stated that the experience will help assess team combinations and individual fitness.
“The decision to base the camp in Europe forms part of the team’s wider performance strategy, aimed at testing combinations, improving match fitness, and sharpening tactical execution ahead of the Nairobi leg of HSBC SVNS 2,” said Simon.

The Spain camp represents a key milestone in the Lionesses’ build-up as they prepare to compete on home soil, with the Nairobi event marking the first step in their HSBC SVNS 2 campaign.
The tournament, which will be held in Kenya for the first time, will take place on 14th to 15th February at the Nyayo National Stadium.
After Nairobi, the second round will be held in Montevideo, Uruguay on 21st–22nd March, before the final round takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 28th–29th March.

The camp follows a similar programme undertaken by the men’s team, who held a one-week camp in South Africa from 12–18 January, where they fine-tuned combinations and finalised selections ahead of the Nairobi tournament.
The Division 2 line-up is now complete: South Africa and Argentina’s women join the Kenya Lionesses, China, Spain, and Brazil to form the six women’s teams.
In the men’s competition, Belgium and Canada will link up with Kenya’s Shujaa side, the USA, Germany, and Uruguay.
