Murang’a SEAL captain Joe Waithira has been deservedly crowned the SportPesa League Player of the Month for December 2025 after a blistering run of form that powered his side through the festive period.
The influential attacker beat off stiff competition from some of the league’s standout performers, underlining his growing importance both to his club and the SportPesa League at large.
Waithira edged out Nairobi United winger Ovella Ochieng’, AFC Leopards attacking midfielder Tyson Otieno, Ulinzi Stars’ November 2025 Player of the Month Paul Okoth, Mara Sugar defender Jimmy Owili and Posta Rangers goalkeeper Bixente Lizarazu to claim the coveted individual honour.
The award recognizes not just goals, but overall impact, consistency and match-winning influence areas where the Murang’a SEAL skipper excelled throughout December.

The festive month proved to be a golden spell for Waithira who delivered when it mattered most.
In just three league matches, he netted four goals, registered eight shots on target and created four clear scoring chances, numbers that reflect both his sharp finishing and his all-round attacking contribution.
Beyond the statistics, his leadership on and off the pitch stood out, guiding his team through a demanding run of fixtures.
Waithira kicked off December with a crucial goal against Nairobi United in a 1-1 draw at the Kasarani Annex. In a tightly contested encounter, his composure in front of goal ensured Murang’a SEAL walked away with a valuable point.
He followed that up with an even more decisive contribution at home, scoring the lone goal in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Police at the SportPesa Arena — a result that highlighted his knack for delivering in pressure moments.
He then capped off a memorable month in emphatic fashion away from home. Facing Mara Sugar at the Awendo Green Stadium, Waithira produced a clinical brace in a 3-1 win, sealing all three points and underlining his status as one of the league’s most lethal attackers.
That run saw Murang’a SEAL collect seven points from a possible nine, remain unbeaten across the three matches and score five goals, four of which came directly from their captain.
