KCB vs APS Bomet

SportPesa League leaders AFC Leopards are all set to battle it out against Tusker FC in arguably the biggest match of the weekend.

Leopards, who have not lifted the title since 1998, reclaimed top spot in midweek with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Nairobi United.

A first half Michael Karamor own goal and a Kelly Madada effort were enough to seal all three points.

Aside from this highlighted fixture, there is plenty of mouthwatering football to look forward to as we enter matchday 16 of the 2025/26 SportPesa League season.

Only four points separate the top five teams in the SL, making this the closest title race at this stage of the season in the last decade. Gor Mahia, Kakamega Homeboyz, Tusker and Shabana round up the top spots.

Record league winners Gor have played two less games than all other teams in the top five. However, they have the chance to reclaim top spot with a victory against Shabana FC on Sunday at the Gusii Stadium.

This particular fixture is slowly proving to be the newest and most fierce football rivalry in the country, with record attendance numbers recorded in the four SL matches between the sides so far.

At the foot of the table, Kariobangi Sharks remain rooted to the bottom with 12 points from their opening 15 matches. A 4-1 demolition against Gor in midweek further deepened Sharks woes this season, as they look to bolster their squad during the January transfer window.

SportPesa League Round 16: Predictions

KCB vs Police FC – Friday, 3PM

The bankers are out to turn their fortunes around and begin their year with a win when they take on Police in the first game of the weekend.

KCB lost 3-1 to Shabana in their last game of 2025, while Police were held to a 2-2 draw by Kakamega Homeboyz. The defeat left KCB in seventh place with 21 points, one less than Police in sixth.

The defending SL champions Police won just one of the four games they played in December. However, they have not lost to KCB in the league since a 2-1 defeat in December 2023.

There has been at least a goal in the last nine head-to-head matches between these two sides, with the same expected in this match as well.

Prediction – Over 1.5 goals

Mathare United vs Murang’a SEAL – Saturday, 3PM

Murang’a are currently on the longest unbeaten streak in the Kenyan topflight. The last time they tasted defeat was against Tusker at the end of October. This run of form places them in 10th place with 18 points.

They face a Mathare side who are coming off a 1-0 loss away at Bandari, dropping them into 12th place with a similar 18 points.

Murang’a have the edge coming into the game, boasting a remarkable run of form and a huge confidence boost.

A 3-1 win against Mara Sugar in their last match was preceded by a shock 1-0 victory over champions Police. Their first pair of back-to-back wins this season.

Since Murang’a were promoted to the top flight last season, they have not lost against the slum boys. They were 2-0 winners in the first match before following it up with a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture.

Prediction – Both teams to score

Posta Rangers vs Kariobangi Sharks – Sunday, 2PM

Sharks are desperate to turn their fortunes around this season after just two wins from their opening 15 games. Their dismal run of performances leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table.

They have an uphill task, facing a Posta side who have lost just once in their last five games. The 3-0 defeat to Ulinzi Stars in their last game of 2025 left them in eighth place with 21 points.

Despite their poor run of form, Sharks will believe they can get something in this game. The William Muluya side has not lost a league game against Posta since September 2023.

Posta have failed to score a goal in their last three league outings and have also conceded the joint most goals this season (18).

Prediction – Posta to win or draw

Ulinzi Stars vs Nairobi United – Sunday, 3PM

Ulinzi snapped a three-match losing streak to convincingly beat Posta 3-0 in their final match of the calendar year. The victory lifted them out of the relegation zone into 14th place with 16 points.

They face a ninth-place Nairobi United, who are also coming off a 2-0 loss to Leopards. They are enjoying a commendable debut season in the SportPesa League, winning six of the 12 matches they have played so far.

This will be the first ever meeting between these two clubs, both keen to make a positive start to the year.

Prediction – Over 1.5 goals

Tusker vs AFC Leopards – Sunday, 4PM

Both sides have lost just once in their last five matches, setting this up to be a potentially explosive fixture.

Defeat here could see Leopards finish the weekend outside the top three, while fourth place Tusker can start the week at the top of the standings with a win here. This is dependent on other results over the weekend.
