The decisive stages of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) continue to gather pace as the Round of 16 officially came to an end on Thursday last week, shifting focus to the highly anticipated quarter-final clashes.
Hosted in Morocco, the tournament has now entered its most unforgiving phase, where only victories matter and a single mistake could spell the end of the African football dream.
From the original 16 teams that advanced to the knockout rounds, eight have successfully navigated the Round of 16 hurdle to book their places in the last eight.

Hosts Morocco remain firmly in contention, joined by Mali, Egypt and Nigeria, as well as defending champions Senegal, Algeria, Ivory Coast and five-time winners Cameroon.
The line-up sets the stage for a series of heavyweight encounters that underline the quality and competitiveness of AFCON 2025.
With the African carnival intensifying, four quarter-final matches will be played across two days, beginning on Friday, January 9, and concluding on Saturday, January 10.
Each fixture will be played at some of Morocco’s iconic stadiums, adding to the grandeur of this crucial phase.
AFCON 2025 quarter-finals fixtures
On Friday, January 9, Mali will face Senegal in what promises to be a fiercely contested West African derby.
The match will be staged at the Grand Stade de Tanger in Tangier, with kick-off set for 7:00 PM EAT.

Senegal, the defending champions, will be keen to assert their dominance, while Mali will be aiming to upset the holders and continue their impressive run.
Later that evening, hosts Morocco will lock horns with Cameroon at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The high-profile clash is scheduled to kick off at 10:00 PM EAT. Backed by home support, Morocco will look to overcome the Indomitable Lions, who are no strangers to high-pressure AFCON encounters.
Action continues on Saturday, January 10, with Algeria taking on Nigeria at the Stade de Marrakech, Ouahat Sidi Brahim.

The North African giants and the Super Eagles will meet at 7:00 PM EAT, in a fixture that pits two former AFCON champions against each other, both desperate to keep their title hopes alive.
The final quarter-final will see Egypt face Ivory Coast at the Stade Adrar in Agadir, with kick-off slated for 10:00 PM EAT.

Egypt, the most successful nation in AFCON history, will be tested by an Ivory Coast side that has grown in confidence as the tournament has progressed.
