The match burst into life almost immediately, with both sides showing attacking intent in the opening exchanges.

Vyner, starting alongside Rob Dickie at the heart of defence, grew into the contest as the tempo settled.

His positioning and composure helped City weather Boro’s early pressure, allowing the hosts to gradually assert themselves.

Anis Mehmeti and Emil Riis both tested Sol Brynn as Bristol City pushed for the opener, but the breakthrough eventually came via a swift counterattack.

Riis saw his initial effort blocked before reacting quickest to drill a low shot past Brynn from just inside the area, registering his seventh goal of the season and sending Ashton Gate into celebration.

Before the interval, City continued to look dangerous, with Tommy Conway going close and Riis narrowly missing the target with an ambitious effort from range.

At the other end, Max O’Leary, making his first start of the season in place of the injured Radek Vítek, was called upon to deny Alex Gilbert with a well-timed save on the stroke of half-time.

The second half followed a similar pattern, Middlesbrough probing while Bristol City remained disciplined.

Vyner was again central to City’s resistance, dealing calmly with aerial deliveries and tracking runners as Boro searched for a route back into the game.

O’Leary produced two fine saves early after the restart to keep the visitors at bay, further boosting the home side’s confidence.

The decisive moment arrived when substitute Rob Atkinson rose highest to head home Scott Twine’s corner, doubling City’s advantage and effectively settling the contest.

From there, Gerhard Struber’s men managed the game expertly, closing spaces and limiting Middlesbrough to speculative efforts.

For Vyner, the victory marked a positive return to the starting XI and another valuable outing at Championship level, underlining his growing importance to Bristol City and his potential value to Harambee Stars in the future.

The win not only ended a difficult run but also reignited Bristol City’s push for a top-six finish.

Attention now turns to the next assignment, with City set to travel to West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day before hosting Portsmouth on New Year’s Day, carrying renewed belief after a statement victory
on home soil.
