AFC Leopards piled more misery on Ulinzi Stars with a hard-fought home victory as Murang’a SEAL arrested Kenya Police FC in Murang’a, compounding a dramatic afternoon in the SportPesa League.
At the Ulinzi Sports Complex, AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani, keen to extend his side’s dominance in this fixture, rang no changes from the team that had settled for a barren draw previously.
Tyson Otieno, James Kinyanjui and Victor Omune once again led Leopards’ attacking charge, a show of faith that paid dividends.
On the opposite bench, Ulinzi Stars coach Stephen Ochola sought a response following a disappointing 2-1 home loss to KCB, handing goalkeeper Timothy Odhiambo a starting role while recalling attacker Masuta Masuta to the first eleven.

Leopards burst out of the blocks and nearly took an early lead in the ninth minute. Tyson signaled his intent with an audacious overhead kick from a delightful Kinyanjui delivery, the effort flashing just wide.
Ulinzi responded six minutes later when Masuta’s inviting ball found Paul Okoth, whose close-range touch forced Humphrey Katasi into a sharp save.
The contest soon evolved into a midfield duel. Emilio Brian dictated play for Ulinzi Stars, while Musa Oundo asserted his physical presence for Leopards.
In the 29th minute, Victor Omune tore down the right flank, beating his markers before unleashing a thunderous strike that Odhiambo tipped away brilliantly for Leopards’ first corner. The Ulinzi keeper was again called into action five minutes later, pushing away a well-driven free kick to keep the scores level.
Leopards’ pressure finally told in stoppage time. A cleverly taken Semo free kick caught the Ulinzi defence flat-footed, allowing the lively Tyson to fire goalwards. Odhiambo failed to gather, and the ball nestled in the net, handing Leopards a deserved lead at the break.

Ulinzi were forced into an early second-half change as Stanley Waswa limped off for Mwasi, and the substitution sparked a revival.
In the 50th minute, Okoth, fresh from being named the SportPesa League November Player of the Month before the game, struck his sixth goal of the season, tapping in from a Telena Ochieng’ free kick to restore parity.

With both sides hunting for a winner, the coaches rolled the dice. Ochola introduced Omondi and Ali, while Ambani turned to his bench, bringing on Madada, Ssenyonjo, Victor Otieno and Ronald Sichenje.
The changes proved decisive. Late in the game, Otieno combined neatly with to slot home the winner, sending the Leopards faithful into celebration.
The victory stretched AFC Leopards’ formidable home record to ten unbeaten matches, while Ulinzi Stars’ struggles deepened, with just three wins in their last 19 league outings.
