Shabana FC came from behind twice to secure a 2-2 SportPesa League draw against Kakamega Homeboyz on Friday afternoon at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Potipher Odhiambo managed to give Homeboyz the lead from the spot in the first half, before Bronson Nsubuga restored parity.

Oliver Majak appeared to have handed the host the lead and a winning goal to go top of the table, only for Wycliffe Awiko to equalize in the dying moments as the sides split the points.

For Kakamega Homeboyz, they squandered a chance to climb to the summit, especially after Gor Mahia were held in Mombasa by Bandari. For Shabana, they extended their unbeaten streak to six SportPesa League matches.

The match was cagey for the first seven minutes, though the hosts created the better chances to break the deadlock.

In the seventh minute, they won a free-kick in a dangerous area after Gilbert Abala fouled Hillary Otieno, but the resulting effort sailed close to Shabana’s goal without finding the net.

Just a minute later, Kakamega Homeboyz launched another attack and won a penalty after goalkeeper Stephen Ochieng fouled Peter Thiong’o. Potipher Odhiambo stepped up and converted calmly, giving Patrick Odhiambo’s side the lead.

In the final 10 minutes of the first half, Shabana began to control the tempo after initially struggling to penetrate the final third.

They created several clear opportunities, but the Homeboyz defense, marshaled by Simon Masaka, held firm to preserve their 1-0 lead at halftime.

The second half delivered all the drama. Shabana emerged determined to reduce the deficit or even snatch a victory.

The turning point came in stoppage time when the Glamour Boys equalized from the penalty spot through a calm Bronson Nsubuga finish.

Oliver Majak seemed to have secured victory for the hosts just four minutes later under sustained pressure from both sides, leaving them only to defend their advantage to avoid a draw.

However, fortune was not on their side. Shabana seized another opportunity two minutes later, with Wycliffe Awiko leveling the scoreline once more, ensuring the teams shared the spoils.
