SportPesa send 6 club officials from Gor Mahia, Shabana and Murang’a Seal to talent ID workshop in South Africa

Leading online gaming firm SportPesa has sent 6 club officials drawn from its three sponsored teams in Kenya – Gor Mahia, Shabana, Murang’a Seal – to the Advanced Talent ID Workshop taking place in Pretoria, South Africa from 8-10 December 2025.

The purpose of the workshop will be to train the officials on talent identification and how to get the best players for their respective teams.

The travelling party includes Gerphas Okuku and Nicanor Arum (Gor Mahia), Elizaphan Kerama and Jefferson Kiyondi (Shabana) and Kevin Omoth and Joshua Maina (Murang’a Seal).

Robert Macharia will head the delegation as representation from the Football Kenya Federation.

About Talent ID workshop in South Africa

The event that will take place at the Tshwane University of Technology will be headed by decorated scout and Talent ID specialist and sports consultant Dr. Walter Steenbok.

Steenbok has served in the South Africa national football team technical bench and has also worked as the Manager and Head of Youth Development Academies and Scouting Department of both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

Aside from Kenya, upto 43 participants will be drawn from South Africa and Tanzania that will be represented by officials from giants Yanga.

“43 participants selected from the National Talent ID and 4 scouts from Kenya and Tanzania will embark on a rigorous training, presentations and specialized delivery from renowned experts in talent id, performance and data analysis, strategy and planning, community scouting initiatives, player management, women’s scouting ecosystem, scouting within universities and talent id research,” Steenbok noted.

The workshop is sponsored by SportPesa South Africa.
