  • Mathare United vs Kakamega Homeboyz will headline the SportPesa League on Saturday, November 15, for Round 9.
  • The match will be staged at Kasarani Stadium from 4:00 PM EAT.
  • Meanwhile, Bandari FC will host Sofapaka, while Posta Rangers take on Mara Sugar on the same day.

Mathare United will host Kakamega Homeboyz at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, in a Sportpesa League Game week 9 clash on Sunday, with kickoff slated for 4 PM.

Homeboyz, currently placed second on the table, will be hoping to extend their impressive start to the season when they play the Slum Boys, who find themselves on the bottom half of the table.

The match comes just days after Abana Beingo’s head coach, Patrick Odhiambo, was nominated for the October Sportpesa League Coach of the Month award.

Homeboyz will be banking on their wonderful run in the league this season.

They have lost just one of their eight matches, winning four and drawing three, which puts them just a point shy of top spot. Their only defeat of the season was a 2-0 loss to Nairobi United.

On the other hand, Mathare have registered mixed results this season with just two wins, two draws, and four losses, which accounts for exactly half of their games.

Mathare are yet to secure a win at home this campaign, with their two victories (against Shabana and KCB) coming while away.

Heading into this match, pressure continues to mount on Mathare’s head coach, John Kamau, who has lost three of the last five matches, with a draw and one win.

On their part, Homeboyz are on form, counting three wins and two draws in the same period. Their last two matches, however, have been 1-1 draws.

The two clubs have met nineteen times since their first encounter in May 2013. Homeboyz have been the better side with ten wins, their opponents have bagged victory thrice, with six matches ending in a stalemate.

Mathare will be hoping to break a six-year jinx as they chase a win for the first time since 2019.

Ahead of the match, veteran Mathare United forward Elli Asieche has credited a wonderful support system for his impressive performance this campaign.

“The difference with last season is we have managed to understand each other better. This is also the first time in like three years that I have had a proper pre-season.”

Asieche believes the club has all it takes to turn around the season.

“I won’t say we have had a very bad season considering how we started off last season. We just need to build that momentum and I know we’ll have a good game against Homeboyz.”

A win for the visitors, Kakamega-based Homeboyz, will catapult them to first on the table, while victory for the Slum Boyz gives them a much-needed boost ahead of a busy festive season calendar.

SportPesa League Round 9 Saturday fixtures

Elsewhere, Sofapaka will be on the road to extend their impressive run in the SportPesa League as they take on Bandari FC at the KPA Mbaraki Sports Club. The match is set to kick off at 3:00 pm EAT.

The Dockers are still in a transitional phase under their new Moroccan head coach, Mohammed Borji, who is yet to secure a victory in the four matches he has overseen since his appointment earlier in October.

With three draws and a loss, the team continues to languish in 15th place on the log with just seven points.

The Ezekiel Akwana-led squad, on the other hand, will be brimming with confidence following their victory over Posta Rangers last weekend. That win propelled them to eighth on the table with 11 points.

While these two teams clash in Mombasa, another compelling fixture will unfold at the Kasarani Annex.

There, Posta Rangers will be seeking to bounce back when they face a resilient Mara Sugar side, who are coming off a strong performance that disappointed AFC Leopards last weekend.
