The second-string men’s national rugby 7s team, the Kenya Morans, got off to a perfect start at the 2025 Zambezi 7s Rugby Challenge on Saturday morning.
The Morans, who are the invited side for the two-day tournament, kicked off their campaign with a blistering 41-0 victory over Old Hararians at the Harare Sports Club.

Kenya Morans thrash Old Hararians
Placed in Pool B alongside also the Pitbulls, the Morans initially weathered early pressure from Old Hararians, who camped inside their 22-meter area in the opening minutes.
However, skipper John Okoth eventually broke the deadlock, surging through the right corner to score the first try. The conversion was missed, but Kenya took a 5-0 lead.
Rayvon Ambale then added another seven points to the board for Kevin Wambua’s squad following a strong set-piece play, slotting the ball between the sticks for a successful conversion and a 12-0 advantage in the first half.

Brian Mutua further extended the Morans’ lead with another try, similar to Okoth’s, sending the team into halftime with a commanding 17-0 lead.
The second half saw the Morans continue their dominance. Speedster Floyd Wabwire stretched the lead with a converted try, pushing the score to 24-0.
Victor Mola then got his name on the scoresheet, powering over for a try that was successfully converted by Jackson Siketi, taking the tally to 31-0.
Mola soon secured his second try of the day after a brilliant offload from Brian Mutua, surging through to make it 36-0.
The match was briefly paused when an Old Hararians player committed a foul resulting in a dangerous head-on collision, which saw David Nyangige stretchered off the pitch with what appeared to be a serious injury.
Following the stoppage, Mola completed his hat-trick, cementing the Morans’ emphatic 41-0 victory and making a powerful statement in the fifth edition of the tournament.
The Kenya Morans will now look to finish the job in the group stage when they face the Pitbulls in the final Pool B match at 4:40 pm local time (5:40 EAT).
