Kenya’s rising football talent Damien Osborne Odera has taken a significant step in his career after signing his first professional contract with Swiss side FC Zürich.
The 18-year-old winger penned a long-term deal that will keep him at the club until 2030, marking the beginning of what promises to be a bright future in European football.
Odera, who can comfortably operate both as a winger and striker, joined the club’s U19 side in the summer of 2024 from German outfit FC Radolfzell. His impressive displays quickly caught the attention of the Zürich technical bench, earning him a place in the club’s U21 setup.

The young attacker has already made ten appearances for the U21 side and has also trained with the first team on several occasions, showing signs of readiness for top-level competition.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, an elated Odera expressed his gratitude and excitement at the opportunity to sign his first professional deal.
“I have been warmly welcomed at FC Zürich and have been able to continue developing very well,” he said.
“Despite receiving several other offers, I chose to sign a five-year contract with FCZ because I believe this is the right environment for me. I want to realize my dream here and, in the medium term, make the step up to the first team.”

Odera’s journey is deeply connected to his football roots. He is the son of former Harambee Stars midfielder Osborne Monday, a well-known figure in Kenyan football who currently serves as the head coach of SportPesa League side Murang’a Seal.
During his playing days, Monday featured for several clubs including Mathare United, Al-Shabab in Oman, Tusker FC, Azam FC of Tanzania and Sofapaka.
Proud of his son’s milestone, Monday shared a heartfelt message to SportPesa Blog, expressing confidence in Damien’s potential.
“It’s great that he’s signed his first professional contract which shows the club believes in him and with this, it will allow him to develop into a fine footballer in his position. I wish him well,” he said.
