SportPesa League preview: Nairobi United vs Sofapaka

Debutants Nairobi United will welcome 2009 league champions Sofapaka FC at Dandora Stadium on Saturday, 1st November 2025, from 3 PM.

The youthful Nairobi United side comes into this clash riding high on confidence after a historic CAF Confederation Cup qualification.

Naibois stunned Tunisian giants Étoile Sportive du Sahel in Sousse to book a slot in the prestigious group stage, with goalkeeper Kevin Oduor’s heroics in the penalty shootout sealing the club’s continental dream.

Speaking after the victory, team captain Dang Bichiok played down the hype, stating, “We are not here to make a statement; we already did that when we faced Gor Mahia in the Cup. We are just here to do our job as players.”

Nairobi United

In the domestic league, Nairobi United sit ninth on the table, having played three matches winning two and losing one.

They have scored three goals and conceded just once, a strong defensive start for the newcomers. Their last league outing saw them claim a 2-0 away win over Kakamega Homeboyz, courtesy of Enock Machaka’s brace at Bukhungu Stadium.

Sofapaka, on the other hand, are still searching for consistency. Batoto Ba Mungu sit 13th on the table with five points from five games, having won one, drawn two, and lost two.

Their last outing ended in a 2-2 draw against Mara Sugar at Dandora Stadium, with Stanley Lugalia and Joseph Kuloba finding the back of the net.

This will be the first official league meeting between the two teams, though Nairobi United defeated Sofapaka 3-0 in a pre-season Elite Cup clash, with Lesley Otieno, Gideon Otieno, and Majaliwa Charo scoring.

Coach Ezekiel Akwana’s men will be eager to make a mark at home, while Nicholas Muyoti’s side aims to bounce back and secure their second win of the season.

Mara Sugar vs Bandari FC

Elsewhere, at Awendo Stadium, Mara Sugar will host Bandari FC from 1 PM in another tightly contested fixture.

Edward Manoah’s side currently sits 11th on the table with six points from five matches, having won one, drawn three, and lost one. Mara Sugar have struggled in front of goal, scoring only four times and conceding a similar number.

Their last match ended in frustration as they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Sofapaka a result that left the Mara Sugar fans disappointed considering their dominance in the first half.

Bandari FC, under coach Mohammed Borji, are just a point behind in 12th place with five points from four games.

The Dockers are yet to lose away from home this season, drawing all three of their away fixtures. However, they have struggled to convert chances, scoring just three goals and conceding two.

The two sides have met twice in the top flight, with last season’s first leg ending in a draw before Bandari claimed a narrow 1-0 victory in the return leg. Both teams will be hunting for their second win of the season as they aim to kick off November positively.
