Ulinzi Stars suffered their second consecutive SportPesa League 25/26 defeat, falling 3-1 to a ten-man Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday afternoon at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County.
Marking their fifth match of the season, the Soldiers were seeking a victory to return to winning ways after a three-match winless run (2D, 1L).

However, they encountered a formidable Homeboyz side, who inflicted a second league defeat this campaign, extending Ulinzi’s winless streak to four matches.
Conversely, the Patrick Odhiambo-led squad secured their third consecutive victory, a result that propelled them into second place on the table with 10 points.

The opening 20 minutes was a cagey affair, though Ulinzi Stars created several clear opportunities to take the lead but failed to convert their chances.
The hosts were first to break the deadlock in the 25th minute through Henry Omollo, who produced a fine finish inside the area.
The goal came from a defensive lapse by Ulinzi, which Boniface Omondi exploited with a cross-volley from the left wing; Omollo met the delivery with a well-placed header to give his team a deserved lead.
Homeboyz nearly doubled their advantage two minutes later when Omollo threatened again, forcing goalkeeper Ricks to parry a shot that fortuitously bounced back off the attacker, though the Ulinzi defense eventually cleared the danger.
Ulinzi struggled to create any dangerous attempts for the remainder of the first half, as Homeboyz comfortably maintained their advantage.
The home side started the second half with immediate impact, doubling their lead just seconds after the restart.
Hillary Juma applied the finishing touch after a fluid attacking move involving Omollo, who found Josephat Lopaga, and the latter slid a precise pass across for Juma to slot home, continuing their dominance from the first period.
It took Ulinzi until the 62nd minute to reduce the deficit.
Awarded a free-kick in a promising position just outside the box, substitute Boniface Muchiri stepped up and expertly converted, reigniting hope for the Dunstan Nyaudo-led side.

Ulinzi’s fortunes appeared to shift in the 76th minute when Homeboyz were reduced to 10 men after first-half scorer Omollo received a second yellow card for a rough challenge on Bildad Abonga.
Just as Ulinzi looked to capitalize on their numerical advantage, they were stunned in the 80th minute by conceding a free-kick in a similar dangerous area.
Estone Esiye stepped up and, emulating Muchiri’s earlier effort, curled his strike perfectly into the bottom left corner, restoring Homeboyz’s three-goal cushion.
Ulinzi could not muster any meaningful chances for a comeback in the closing stages, ultimately suffering back-to-back losses, while the hosts celebrated consecutive SportPesa League victories.
