It was never an ideal fit for Postecoglou, whose proven second-season formula of winning trophies was unlikely to materialize at Forest.

This consideration is compounded by his recent dismissal from Tottenham last season, despite leading the team to a Europa League victory and securing Champions League qualification.

During his time with the Tricky Trees, Postecoglou failed to secure a single victory in the eight matches he oversaw, amassing only two points from two draws while suffering six defeats.

Ange Postecoglou sacked by Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The Club will make no further comment at this time,” Nottingham wrote on their social media less than 20 minutes after the Chelsea defeat.

This means Nottingham will be searching for a new manager for the third time this season, having previously sacked Nuno Espirito before appointing Postecoglou.

The club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, demonstrated his impatience to wait for the Australian to deliver on his promise of trophies next season.

Forest created opportunities in the first half against Chelsea but failed to convert, allowing the Blues – who were again hampered by indiscipline and a red card to secure a 0-3 victory.

Josh Acheampong broke the deadlock just four minutes after the restart.

Pedro Neto then drove a second nail into the coffin, extending their lead, before Reece James sealed the win with a late third goal, delivering the final blow to Ange’s tenure.
