FKF National Super League side Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) have been dealt a major blow after confirming that club captain Charles Kwaka has sustained a serious knee injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
The dependable midfielder, who has been instrumental in MOFA’s solid start to the campaign, suffered the injury during their hard-fought 1-0 win over Vihiga United last weekend.
The victory MOFA’s second in as many matches saw the side climb level on points with league leaders Mombasa United and Migori Youth, who both enjoy a superior goal difference.

Charles Kwaka ruled out with season-ending injury
In an official statement released by the club, MOFA confirmed the extent of Kwaka’s injury after medical tests and scans were conducted earlier in the week.
“Following further assessments and an MRI scan, we can confirm that our captain Charles Kwaka sustained anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus tears during our match against Vihiga United last Sunday,” the club announced.
“Charles will undergo surgery in the coming days and will immediately begin his rehabilitation programme, with the goal of being fit and ready for the start of next season. Everyone at MOFA FC will be fully behind Charles throughout his recovery, ensuring he receives all the care and support needed to return to full fitness.”
Team Manager Nicholas Atulo also expressed the club’s full support for the captain during his recovery process.
“Charles has got all our support as the MOFA family during this period. We wish him a swift and complete recovery and can’t wait to see him back leading the team,” said Atulo.

Kwaka’s absence will be a huge loss for head coach Charles Bruno, who has built his team’s midfield structure around the experienced midfielder.
His leadership and composure at the middle of the pack have been vital to MOFA’s impressive start, helping the side register consecutive clean sheets in their opening fixtures.

MOFA will now have to find a temporary solution in the midfield as they prepare to face Kibera Black Stars on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Hope Centre, Kawangware.
Despite the setback, Bruno’s side remains determined to maintain their perfect start to the season as they continue their push for promotion to the SportPesa League.
