Gor Mahia target consecutive wins in Dandora clash with KCB
  • KCB will host Gor Mahia on Sunday, October 5, in the 2025/26 SportPesa League.
  • The match is scheduled to kick off at 3:00 PM at Dandora Stadium.
  • Both sides are aiming for back-to-back victories – this will be KCB’s fourth league match and Gor Mahia’s third.

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will be aiming for consecutive victories in the 2025/26 SportPesa League when they travel to Dandora Stadium today, Sunday, October 5, for a highly anticipated clash against KCB.

The match, slated for a 3:00 PM kickoff, sees Gor buoyed by a massive 0-2-win last weekend against Sofapaka at the same venue.  This result returned the team to winning ways after a season that began on a low note with a 1-0 defeat to Bidco United.

Their new signing, Ghanaian international Ebenezer Adukwaw, was on the scoresheet with both goals, opening his account for K’Ogalo. He will be looking to continue this rich vein of form and secure a second consecutive victory for his compatriot, head coach Charles Akonnor.

However, securing maximum points will be no easy task, as they face a formidable KCB side.

The Bankers are also enjoying a resurgence after narrowly defeating Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 at the Kasarani Annex, with Richard Omondi scoring the decisive goal.

That victory gave Robert Matano’s squad their second win of the season, having kicked off their campaign with a significant win over Tusker FC.

That said, the Ruaraka-based club will be playing at home, seeking three more points that could propel them to the summit of the table.

Currently sitting in third place with six points, a win would see them amass nine, potentially taking them top if other results go their way, allowing them to lead the Sportpesa League table heading into the international break.

Tyron Kariuki confident they will pick positive results over Gor Mahia

Speaking ahead of the match, KCB midfielder Tyron Kariuki stated that despite Gor’s stature as a giant of Kenyan football, his team is ready, well-prepared, and undaunted by the challenge.

“The mood at the camp has been good. The players are psyched up and excited to face Gor tomorrow. Of course, they are a big team, but we are no pushovers, so we are expecting a very exciting match.

This week we have put in the work and trained diligently. I am confident we will get a positive result,” Kariuki told the club media on Saturday during their final training session.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia midfielder Enock Morrison revealed that the squad has been working tirelessly to improve their play in the final third, an area where they fell short in their opening encounter against Bidco United.

“I think we have been lacking in our finishing. If you look at our previous matches, we managed to dominate but our composure in front of goal was not there in the first match.

In the second game, we created chances and two of them went in, which was a positive outcome,” he explained.

He also affirmed that the team is ready for the challenge.

“We are ready for KCB. We know they play a style similar to Sofapaka, and we have been preparing all week for them.”

A fascinating statistic between these two teams is that since 2019, none of their last 11 encounters has seen more than four goals. The most recent high-scoring match between them was a 3-3 draw back in 2019.

Of those 11 recent meetings, Gor Mahia has won three, with KCB matching that tally, while the spoils have been shared five times.

Last season, the first leg ended in a goalless draw, with Gor Mahia winning the reverse fixture thanks to a solo strike from Austine Odhiambo.

Therefore, this match is expected to be a tightly contested battle, with both sides seeking a result to boast about.
