- Gor Mahia will face Sofapaka on Saturday, September 27, in matchweek two of the SportPesa League 2025/26.
- The game will be staged at Dandora Stadium, kicking off at 4:00 PM EAT, with Gor Mahia looking to bounce back.
- Gor were stunned 0-1 by Bidco in their opening clash of the season.
Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will be in action today, Saturday, September 27, as they seek to return to winning ways in their away fixture against Sofapaka at the Dandora Stadium from 4:00 PM EAT.
Gor’s 25/26 SportPesa League campaign began disappointingly last weekend when they suffered a surprising 1-0 defeat to Bidco United at Kasarani Stadium.

Despite controlling possession for large periods of the match, they squandered numerous opportunities, while Bidco capitalized on their lone chance – a penalty to secure victory in the opening fixture.
As a result, Gor are not only aiming to get back to winning form, but new head coach Charles Akonnor will also be targeting his first victory since taking charge, as he aims to guide K’Ogalo to a record 22nd top-flight title this season.
However, it will not be an easy contest for the champions, as they face a determined Sofapaka side. Batoto ba Mungu come into the match with confidence after holding AFC Leopards to a 1-1 draw in their league opener last weekend.
Under the guidance of Ezekiel Akwana, the team will be striving to maintain that positive momentum and secure maximum points at home as they target a top-five finish this season.

Akwana stated after their draw with Ingwe: “My target is higher than last season. We aimed for the top eight and finished seventh. This year, we’re pushing for the top five and one, two, and three are also in the mix. That’s what we’re going for.”

Meanwhile, Gor’s Ghanaian head coach indicated that the team has addressed the shortcomings from the loss to Bidco, particularly their inefficiency in front of goal.
“Honestly, I don’t have anything to blame the boys for. In the first match we lost, but we dominated, it’s just that we could not score. So we have been working on those areas and we are ready for the match tomorrow,” Akonnor explained ahead of the game.
He emphasized that the only objective going forward is to secure victories.
“The responsibility we have is to ensure this team wins consistently, because when we don’t, many questions will be raised. We are prepared very well.”
In the last ten meetings between these sides, Sofapaka have failed to secure a win, with Gor claiming victory in five matches and the other five ending in draws.
Last season, Gor collected four points from the fixture—a 2-0 win in the first leg followed by a 1-1 draw in the return match.
With both teams having strong incentives to win, this encounter promises an entertaining Saturday spectacle.
Posta Rangers vs Tusker FC
Ahead of the Gor-Sofapaka clash, fans in Nairobi will be treated to an early match as Posta Rangers host Tusker FC at the same venue from 1:00 PM.
Both fixtures were originally scheduled for Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos but were relocated.
The hosts enter this match in high spirits after kicking off their season with an impressive 2-1 comeback victory over Mathare United on Monday.

They will be looking to extend that winning run against a Tusker side that began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to KCB.
The 12-time league champions will travel to Dandora aiming for nothing less than a win to revive their form.
Mara Sugar vs Kakamega Homeboyz
Elsewhere, in Migori at the Awendo Green Stadium, Mara Sugar will host Kakamega Homeboyz from 2:00 PM.
Both teams are playing their first league matches of the season after their opening fixtures Sportpesa League 2025/26 were postponed due to their scheduled opponents – Kenya Police FC and Nairobi City Stars, being involved in CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary rounds.
