- Bidco secured the win in the 88th minute through a penalty, calmly converted by Newton Ochieng.
Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia’s quest to reclaim the topflight title got off to a shaky start as they suffered a late 0-1 defeat to Bidco United in the 2025/26 SportPesa League opener on Sunday evening.
Played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, both teams seemed headed for a goalless draw until the 87th minute, with Gor squandering several golden opportunities before.
Bidco ultimately punished them just two minutes before stoppage time from the penalty spot.
Ochieng on target as Bidco stun Gor Mahia
George Amonoo committed a foul, bringing down John Kelwish inside the box and recent acquisition Newton Ochieng stepped up and converted the spot-kick, sealing a painful loss for the home side.

The result also meant that new head coach, Ghanaian Charles Akonnor, began his official tenure with a defeat.
“My general assessment of the match was positive in terms of how we played and controlled the game. What we lacked were the finishing touches to convert the golden opportunities we created.
We will be working on our final third execution and improving our composure in decisive moments,” Akonnor stated after the match.
Gor Mahia, who dominated from the first minute, registered their first attempt in the 22nd minute.
New signing Ebenezer delivered a good pass to Bryton Onyona, but the Bidco defense remained composed and deflected his effort out for a corner.

Bidco had a chance of their own but failed to hit the target, as the match remained a cagey affair for much of the duration.
Apart from the late penalty, Gor Mahia created several opportunities in the second half but struggled in the final third a lack of sharpness that finally cost them.
Gor will now aim to bounce back from this disappointing start when they travel to face Sofapaka on matchday two this coming Saturday. Sofapaka also began their season strongly, holding AFC Leopards to a 1–1 draw.
