Dala 7s 2025
  • KCB Rugby defeated Daystar Falcons 20-10 to claim the 2025 Kabeberi 7s title on Sunday evening at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.
  • This marked the penultimate round of the 2025 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit, and KCB now have one hand firmly on the overall title.

KCB Rugby has moved a step closer to clinching the overall 2025 Sportpesa National Sevens Circuit title, having secured their third trophy this season at the Kabeberi 7s.

They defeated first-time finalists Daystar Falcons 20-10 in a thrilling match held at the RFUEA Grounds on Sunday, September 7, in Nairobi.

The Bankers, who not only clinched the title but also successfully defended it for the fourth time, now have one hand firmly on the overall trophy after the second-placed Strathmore Leos faltered in this fifth leg of the six-round series by finishing fourth.

This result allowed KCB to accumulate 22 points, bringing their total to 104, well ahead of the Leos’ 95 points.

Therefore, the bankers simply need to seize their opportunities in the final round next weekend.

They require only 14 points to secure the title, as even if the Leos were to win the Dalas 7s and achieve the maximum 22 points, their best possible total would be 117.

In the final against the Falcons at RFUEA Grounds, KCB started strongly with an early try by Elvis Olukusi within the first minute.

Although the conversion was missed, their dominance continued, and Vincent Onyala soon crossed in the left corner to extend their lead to 10–0.

The Falcons struggled to find their rhythm in the first half. Further tries from Samuel Asati and a second from Olukusi ensured KCB entered halftime leading 20–0.

After the break, Daystar finally got on the scoreboard with a try from Patrick Odongo.

A late consolation effort by Tony Ogoma was too little too late, as KCB comfortably secured the title.

Nonetheless, the Falcons showed significant improvement, and the 19 points they earned will greatly enhance their standing in the overall table.

Kabeberi 7s third place playoff: Kabras 24-12 Strathmore Leos Recap

In the third-place playoff, Kabras edged out Strathmore Leos, further denting the latter’s hopes of claiming the overall SportPesa National Sevens Circuit title, which will be decided in the final leg at the Dalas 7s in Kisumu this coming weekend.

Brian Mutua scored a try for Kabras, Kelvin Wekesa added a brace, and Mathias Osimbo sealed the victory. The win capped off a strong weekend for Kabras and boosted their position on the log.

Meanwhile, Strathmore Leos, under coach Willis Ojal, will rue defensive errors that cost them a place in the final after losing to Daystar Falcons.

This marked their second missed final appearance this season and resulted in another drop in points.

The Leos still have a mathematical chance to claim the overall title, but only if KCB falters dramatically at the Dallas Sevens and fails to finish among the top 10 and given KCB’s consistency, having appeared in all five finals of the 2025 series so far, such a scenario appears highly unlikely.
