The National Police Service (NPS) has announced the temporary closure of several routes leading to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Friday, September 5, ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers clash between Kenya vs Gambia.
In a statement released by FKF on Thursday night, traffic disruptions will begin early, from 6:00 AM, with the match kicking off at 4:00 PM EAT.

If you are coming from Nairobi CBD via Thika Road, including areas like Ruiru and Juja, you are advised to take an alternative route using Kiambu Road at Exit 4, as Muthaiga will be blocked off.
Commuters heading toward Mwiki through Thika Superhighway should use the Ruaraka–Baba Dogo–Lucky Summer route, which follows the Nairobi River and connects back to Mwiki.
Coming from Juja, Thika, or Ruiru? You’re advised to use the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road instead as there will be a roadblock at the Ruiru Interchange.

For those traveling from Githurai to the city center, use the Githurai 44 route, which links to Kiambu Road.
And if you are a fan heading to Kasarani, stick to the service lanes using Exit 7 or Exit 8 for the smoothest access.
These changes are all part of the plan to make sure fans have an easy time getting to the stadium, and to give security teams enough room to manage the crowds properly.
“The National Police Service continues to work collaboratively with relevant agencies and urges all motorists to cooperate with officers on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow,” the statement read in part. “Additional Police Officers have been deployed and will take stern action against anyone violating traffic rules.”
Kenya vs Gambia Tickets

In a related update, the federation reported that an undisclosed number of regular tickets, priced at 200 Kenyan shillings, are already sold out.
Surprisingly, VVIP tickets, which were not officially introduced for public sale, have also been declared unavailable.

Approximately 70% of the Silver tickets (500 KES) have been purchased, while 25% of the VIP tickets (1,000 KES) and 10% of the Gold tickets (2,000 KES) are sold out.
This match is anticipated to draw a massive turnout, following Kenya’s impressive fan support during the recently concluded 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
As for Harambee Stars, they have got four group-stage matches left, but their road to qualification is tough.

They sit fourth with six points, while Gabon leads with 18 after thrashing Seychelles 4–0 – the most Kenya can possibly reach if they win everything.
For Kenya to make it through, they will need Ivory Coast (currently second) to drop points, starting with their game against Burundi on Friday.
Kenya would then be in the race for second place, hoping to be one of the four best runners-up that will enter the inter-confederation playoffs for a spot at the 2026 World Cup.
