- Eliud Kipchoge clocked 2:08:31 to secure a ninth-place finish at the 2025 Sydney Marathon.
- The marathon legend emphasized that he is no longer pursuing medals, but is instead dedicating his efforts to a greater mission: using running as a force to unite people across the world.
- Kipchoge is now focused on building a lasting legacy- one that inspires future generations to run without limits and embrace the spirit of perseverance.
Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge expressed contentment, stating he has nothing left to prove after finishing ninth in the 2025 Sydney Marathon on Sunday. Kipchoge, who was making his debut in Sydney, struggled in a race where Ethiopia’s Hailemaryam Kiros and Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands excelled.
The event marked the 23rd marathon in the illustrious career of the 40-year-old, who began his 26.2-mile journey with a victorious debut at the 2013 Berlin Marathon, thirteen years ago.
Speaking after the race, Kipchoge emphasized that he is no longer chasing medals, but rather focusing on a broader mission using running as a unifying force.
“I’m proud to have crossed the finish line. I have absolutely nothing to prove,” he said.
“My purpose now is to bring people together. Let’s aim for 55,000 participants next year up from 35,000. This is a spectacular course; there’s nothing else like it in the world.”

The crowd was phenomenal, and the massive turnout demonstrated a deep-seated love for sport and culture,” Kipchoge told 10 News on YouTube.
Eliud Kipchoge not slowing down, aims to cement his legacy
Despite being in the twilight of his career, Kipchoge remains the most accomplished marathoner in history.
With 11 World Marathon Major victories, two Olympic titles, a personal best of 2:01:09 (a former world record), and the unprecedented feat of breaking the two-hour barrier, his achievements are unmatched.

But his ambition now transcends accolades.
Kipchoge is focused on cementing a lasting legacy- one that motivates generations to run without limits.
I want to make Australia a running nation. My sole wish for the people of Australia is to step outside their doors and run. I believe in consistency; that is what sustains me.
I also adhere to discipline and respect. My legacy is that when my name is mentioned, it serves as a reminder to push boundaries and provides the hope to run. That is my legacy.”
