KCB Rugby’s lightning-fast winger, Floyd Wabwire, has revealed why Kenya International 7s star Vincent Onyala is his ultimate role model lavishing praise on the seasoned player for his ability to elevate and empower those around him.
Speaking exclusively to the SportPesa Blog, the former Daystar Falcons standout shared that he has always admired Onyala’s game, despite the two playing in different positions for the Kenya 7s side.
From the very beginning, when I started playing, I’ve always looked up to Onyala. Even though he plays as a forward, I really admire his style of play and everything he brings both on and off the pitch. He’s truly my role model,” said Wabwire.

What makes Onyala such a standout player & role model to Floyd Wabwire?
Wabwire further elaborated on why he considers Onyala an inspiration, praising not only his exceptional skills on the field but also his ability to nurture talent and lead by example within the team.
One his game intensity is very high. He is a player who, when you stay with him, you realize you have been playing a very demanding game, and he can show you how to simplify it.
Onyala is also a player who makes you feel assured on the field because he knows how to tactically position you, and I think everyone wants to play alongside him,” Wabwire said of the Kenyan legend, who has been a cornerstone of the Shujaa squad since his debut in 2018.
Floyd Wabwire’s ambition: Consistency at the top
Wabwire has been a revelation for Dennis Mwanja’s side, playing a pivotal role in helping KCB secure two titles in the ongoing SportPesa National Sevens Circuit.
The team has reached four finals so far, dropping only two, to Strathmore Leos but yet they still lead the overall standings with 82 points.

Wabwire burst onto the scene during the Driftwood 7s, where he was named Most Valuable Player, finishing as both the top try scorer with eight tries and the top points scorer with 40 points.
In the Christie 7s, he once again delivered, crossing the whitewash another eight times.
Riding on this rich vein of form, Wabwire is determined to maintain peak performance as the circuit heads into its final two legs.

When I joined KCB, I never imagined I would get to this point. But this is just the beginning. I’m still learning, growing, and checking off my goals day by day,” he shared.
My dream as a player is to remain consistent and to continually prove why I deserve my place at this club, while sustaining and improving my performance,” Wabwire concluded.
