- Beatrice Chebet and Faith Kipyegon will not compete at the 2025 Wanda Diamond League final.
- Kipyegon and Chebet won the 1500m and 5000m Diamond League trophies in 2024, hence their absence in Zurich will make the event lose star power.
- The Diamond League final will be held in Zurich, Switzerland from Wednesday, August 27 to Thursday, August 28.
When Kenyan runners Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet smashed the 1500m and 5000m world records respectively at the Prefontaine Classic in July, athletics fans were waiting with anticipation to see how they would perform at the 2025 Wanda Diamond League final.
However, the absence of these Olympic Games champions from the entry list of athletes set to light up the track in Zurich on Wednesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 28 has left many of them disappointed. Kipyegon’s and Chebet’s failure to compete in this year’s final alters the competition in several ways.

Why Kipyegon’s and Chebet absence changes everything in 2025 Wanda Diamond League final
The non-attendance of Kipyegon and Chebet at the 2025 Diamond League final makes the competition more unpredictable.
These two athletes have dominated track events this season. Kipyegon set a new world record of 3:48.68 at the Prefontaine Classic 2025 on Sunday, July 5.
Similar to Kipyegon, Chebet also clocked 13:58.06 to become the first ever woman to run 5000m race in less than 14 minutes.

Apart from their record-breaking feats, Chebet and Kipyegon produced excellent performances in the races that they have taken part in so far this season.
The fact that they won the Diamond League trophies in 2024, also makes their non-appearance more painful.
Furthermore, Kipyegon’s and Chebet’s absence makes the Wanda Diamond League final to lose the star power since they are arguably the biggest names in the athletics sector at the moment.
