Dala 7s 2025
  • Strathmore Leos defeated KCB Rugby 31-21 to win the Embu 7s on Sunday, August 24, at the ASK Njukiri Showground.
  • The victory marked Leos’ second title in the 2025 SportPesa National 7s Circuit, having already clinched the Prinsloo 7s.
  • There are now two remaining legs in the SportPesa National 7s Circuit: the Kabeberi 7s in Meru (September) and the Dala 7s, also set for September.

Strathmore Leos secured their second 2025 SportPesa National Sevens title after overpowering a relentless KCB Rugby side 31-21 in the inaugural Embu 7s final on Sunday evening at the ASK Njukiri Showground.

As a result, KCB, who were hoping to edge closer to clinching the overall national circuit, will now face a steeper challenge in the final two legs.

Both teams have two titles apiece, but the Bankers still maintain a narrow lead in the overall standings due to accumulated points.

Having reached their third final this season, each a grueling showdown against KCB, with just one prior victory at the Prinsloo 7s, the Leos arrived in Embu determined to make a statement.

They launched their assault on the front foot, as Brian Wahinya’s opening kickoff was recovered brilliantly, allowing Nigel Amaitsa to slice through the left wing and give the Leos an early 5-0 lead.

It wasn’t long before Victor Mola added to the tally, this time finishing brilliantly on the right flank after a slick pass from Arnold Muita, who also nailed the conversion to make it 12-0.

A defensive lapse from KCB allowed Stanislaus Shikoli to extend the advantage to 17-0.

In a blink, Leos weren’t done yet, Barnabas Owuor crossed the line just before halftime, pushing the score to a dominant 24-0.

However, Floyd Wabwire managed to put KCB on the board with a converted try before the break, reducing the deficit to 24-7, but the Leos entered halftime with a commanding advantage.

The second half began with Leos down to six men after Gabriel Ayimba was shown a yellow card.

KCB seized the momentum, and within moments, Wabwire again broke through the defense, reducing the gap to 14-24 after another successful conversion.

Wabwire secured his second try of the match just two minutes later, and with the conversion successful, it became a nail-biting three-point contest at 21-24.

The Dennis Mwanja-coached charges continued to dominate possession.

However, just as KCB sensed a glimmer of hope for a comeback, Samwel Wafula dashed their ambitions with a final try after the hooter had sounded.

The successful conversion sealed a 31-21 victory for the Leos, crowning them the inaugural Embu 7s champions and securing their second title of the season.

Oilers claim third, Quins edge Kabras for fifth

Christie 7s finalists Menengai Oilers bounced back emphatically after a semifinal loss to Leos, thrashing Masinde Muliro University (MMUST) 31-0 in the third-place playoff.

The dominant win boosts their tally to 47 points, keeping them firmly in third place overall.

Elsewhere, Kenya Harlequins, the defending National 7s Circuit champions, edged past Kenya Cup holders Kabras 15-5 in the fifth-place playoff.

Kabras collected 12 points, while Quins added 13 to sit fourth overall, both teams now eyeing a strong finish in the penultimate round at the Kabeberi 7s in Meru.
