Just two days after holding Group A favorites Angola to a 1-1 draw with 10 men, history repeated itself on Sunday, August 10, when the Harambee Stars, Kenya’s men’s national team, stunned two-time champions Morocco with a 1-0 victory in the ongoing Africa Nations Championship.
This time, Ryan Wesly Ogam emerged as the match-winner, scoring a brilliant solo goal that lit up a fully packed Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The result puts Kenya within touching distance of the quarterfinals in their debut appearance at the tournament.
Kenya, considered underdogs in the group, have now defied all odds toppling giants and rewriting expectations.
After opening with a 1-0 win over DR Congo, then drawing with Angola, the victory over Morocco means Harambee Stars now lead Group A with seven points and one match remaining.

The result also marked the end of Morocco’s remarkable 14-match unbeaten CHAN run. The Atlas Lions, who had not lost in the competition since 2016, won back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2022.
Tactician Benni McCarthy, who has earned widespread acclaim for his strategic prowess, made a bold decision ahead of the match, introducing six changes to his starting lineup.

In defense, he overhauled the backline: Mohammed Siraj, Mike Kibwage, and Lewis Bandi replaced Abud Omar, Alphonce Omija, and Daniel Sakari.
Further changes saw Bentaey Omondi and Ryan Ogam start in place of Austin Odhiambo and Alpha Onyango.
As a result of these changes and the performance that followed, SportPesa Blog now assesses how each player fared in the historic clash:
