Fresh from a winning start in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, Harambee Stars are set to fight for three crucial points against Angola on Thursday night at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Following their win over DR Congo in their Group A opener, Kenya has a chance to attain an unprecedented CHAN debutant milestone by securing two consecutive victories for the first time since Madagascar achieved it in 2022.

Harambee Stars impressed many football fans in the country when they humbled pre-match favorites DR Congo 1-0 in a hotly contested match that was played at the Kasarani Stadium on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

The goal, which was scored in the first half, came courtesy of the skillful Austine Odhiambo.

Although DR Congo created several goal scoring opportunities especially in the first half, they were unable to break down the solid Harambee Stars backline that had the likes of Daniel Sakari and Alphonce Omija.

Harambee Stars chasing unprecedented milestone in Angola vs Kenya CHAN 2024 fixture

After victory over DR Congo, Harambee Stars players shift their focus to the fixture against Angola where a win will ensure they become the first debutant since Madagascar to win their first two CHAN games.

Madagascar achieved that feat in 2022 when they defeated Ghana and Sudan.

Benni McCarthy’s comments ahead of the Angola vs Kenya CHAN 2024 clash

Speaking ahead of the Angola vs Kenya showdown, Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy stated that they will not change their approach.

According to him, he will stick with the midfield trio of Odhiambo, Alpha Onyango and Manzur Okwaro in that match.

“We will utilize all the good shape that we utilized against DR Congo. We are hoping to secure another win against Angola. We are going to play in that match and the rest of the fixtures with passion, love and with all the energy needed in order to get a victory

I think Onyango and Odhiambo combining well with Okwaro against Angola will be our major plus in the battle, the trio will be able to give us a good show in this tournament,” McCarthy explained.

Angola vs Kenya team news and predicted lineups

McCarthy is expected to approach the Angola vs Kenya game in the same manner he tackled the DR Congo match, fielding the same starting eleven that played against the Leopards.

He is likely to stick with the attacking trio of Odhiambo, Ryan Ogam and Masoud Juma with the likes of Onyango and Okwaro pulling strings in the midfield.

As for Angola, they are likely to make a few changes in their starting lineup because despite enjoying a lot of possession (58.7%), they could not overcome the Atlas Lions of Morocco in their opening game that was played at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The head coach of the team that is nick-named the Sable Antelopes may not include Deivi Vieira popularly known as Gilberto in his starting eleven since the latter lost possession 20 times in the defeat to Morocco. No player in that match lost more possession compared to Gilberto.

The much awaited Angola vs Kenya fixture is likely to decide who will finish second in CHAN 2024 Group A standings and qualify for the quarterfinals.

Harambee Stars occupies the second position at the moment in Group A with 3 points, similar to Morocco who sit at the top of the competitive table.

Meanwhile, DR Congo and Angola sit fourth and fifth in that order while Zambia, who are yet to start their CHAN 2024 campaign sit third in the standings.

Therefore, a win for Harambee Stars against Angola will not only ensure they achieve an unprecedented CHAN debutant milestone but also move them a step closer towards advancing to the CHAN 2024 quarterfinals.
