- Kenya unveiled its team for the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships during the trials that were held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Tuesday, July 22.
- Some of the athletes selected to represent Kenya in Tokyo are Faith Kipyegon, Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Beatrice Chebet.
- Peres Jepchirchir, who won a gold medal at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, has also been included in Kenya’s team.
Kenya officially named its powerful team for the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships on Tuesday, July 22 after a successful trials held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Led by world record holders Beatrice Chebet and Faith Kipyegon, and the high-flying Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the squad has what it takes to deliver in the Championships that are scheduled to kick-off on September 13.
Kipyegon, who lowered her 1500m world record from 3:49.04 to 3:48.68 earlier this month, will double in Tokyo.

The 30-year-old will feature in the 1500m and 5000m races where she is the defending champion.
Apart from Kipyegon, Chebet and Agnes Ngetich Jebet are also expected to double in Tokyo. The duo have booked the 5000m and 10000m tickets.
Some of the other athletes who have made it to Kenya’s team are Faith Cherotich, Edmund Serem, Ferdinand Omanyala, Dorcas Ewoi, Nicholas Kipkorir, Jackline Cherono, Magdaline Masai, Vincent Ngetich, Kennedy Kimutai and Sarah Moraa.

The reigning 800m champion Mary Moraa, Edwin Kurgat, Boniface Mweresa, Zablon Ekwam, Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech and Susan Ejore have also qualified for the highly anticipated championships.
Faith Kipyegon backs team Kenya to deliver at 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships
Speaking ahead of the upcoming showdown, Kipyegon expressed confidence on Kenya performing well in Tokyo
“This is a solid team. The selected squad has what it takes, and we will do everything possible to bring the medals home,” she told SportPesa Blog.
