The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) completed its elections on Monday, July 21, 2025 with marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge ascending into a new role.

Kipchoge, who has won two Olympic Games gold medals for Kenya, was named the new NOC-K male athlete representative.

The 40-year-old replaces the outing representative and Kenya Sevens icon Humphrey Kayange.

Kipchoge is expected to play a crucial role in championing for the rights of Kenyan sportspersons ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Eliud Kipchoge to work alongside Grace Okulu

The Kaptagat based runner will work closely with the Kenya Lionesses captain Grace Okulu, who has been named the NOC-K female athlete representative.

Okulu has played an instrumental role in Kenya Lionesses success in recent years, including helping the team to win the 2025 World Rugby Challenger Series.

She replaces another Kenyan great in Hellen Obiri, who has flown Kenya’s flag higher in many international events.

Obiri and Kayange leave their roles with their heads held higher having led by example.

Eliud Kipchoge to race in Sydney Marathon next month

The new role comes with less than two months remaining before Kipchoge competes in the highly anticipated Sydney Marathon 2025 on Sunday, August 31.

In Sydney, the former world record holder will come up against a strong field that has the likes of Birhanu Legese and Bernard Koech.

Vincent Ngetich, who finished second at the 2023 Tokyo Marathon, Dawit Wolde and Kenneth Kipkemoi are some of the other stars who will be in contention.

Other winners besides Eliud Kipchoge in NOC-K 2025 elections

Meanwhile, Shadrack Maluki, Barnaba Korir, Nashon Randieki and Francis Karugu won various seats in the NOC-K elections.

Maluki was elected the President of NOC-K while Korir and Randiek bagged the first and second deputy presidents tickets in that order. Karugu is the new deputy Secretary General. 

Reacting shortly after being confirmed the winner, Korir stated that he will do everything possible to transform the sporting eco-system in the country.

“Thank you to my fellow sports federations, delegates, athletes and colleagues who stood by the values of leadership, service, and transformation.

This win is not mine alone, it belongs to the athletics fraternity, to youth development champions and to every Kenyan who believes in sports as a force for national unity and opportunity,” he wrote.

All eyes will be on all the new NOC-K officials including Kipchoge to see what change they will bring to the important sector.
