- Four runners led by John Korir finished inside the top five positions in the men’s category at the 2025 Boilermaker road race that was staged in New York, United States on Sunday.
- Korir, who clinched the Boston Marathon title a few weeks ago, crossed the finishing line at 42:44.
- Besides the remarkable performance from Korir, Veronica Loleo also won the women’s title to ensure Kenya’s flag flew higher in the World Athletics recognized race.
The 2025 Boilermaker 15K road race was transformed into an East African victory parade as the Kenyan duo of John Korir and Veronica Loleo won the prestigious titles on Sunday, July 13.
Korir and Loleo, delivered sensational performances in the race that was held in New York, United States, to clinch the men’s and women’s titles respectively.
Korir, who has produced dominant displays in recent months, ran away with the men’s title in a time of 42.44.

Korir leads Kenyans to glory at 2025 Boilermaker 15K road race
He was followed by his fellow Kenyan citizen Hillary Koech and Ethiopian-born United States of America (USA) runner Abbabiya Simbassa. Koech crossed the finishing line at 43:08 while Simbassa clocked 43:28.
Moreover, Kenyans Wesley Kiptoo and Patrick Kiprop settled for the fourth and fifth positions in 43:36 and 43:37 in that order.
The win ensured Korir, who hails from Cherangany, Trans Nzoia County, defended the title he won last year.
Korir’s compatriot Veronica Loleo stuns stellar field to win 2025 Boilermaker 15K women’s title
Meanwhile, Loleo overcame a strong field to clinch the 2025 Boilermaker 15K women’s title in a time of 49.37.
For Korir, who is the sibling to the one-time Boston Marathon winner Wesley Korir, the win is expected to improve his morale ahead of the upcoming Abbott World Marathon Majors races.
The 28-year-old will be aiming to add another Abbott World Marathon Majors title to his impressive collection that already has 2024 Chicago Marathon and 2025 Boston Marathon titles.
Although he has not confirmed where his next destination will be, Korir is likely to compete in either Berlin Marathon 2025, New York City Marathon 2025, Chicago Marathon 2025 or Valencia Marathon 2025.
