Beatrice Chebet’s 5km road race women-only world record

Chebet started her record-breaking run on December 31, 2023 when she shattered the 5km road race women-only world record in Barcelona.

The athlete, who is managed by Rosa & Associati, dominated the race from the start to finish, cutting the tape in an incredible time of 14:13.

Chebet’s performance broke the previous mark of 14:29 that was also set by Senbere Teferi (Ethiopia) in 2021.

One year after setting a new 5km road race women-only world record, the sensational Chebet was at it again.

This time round, she smashed the 5km road mixed world record at the Cursa dels Nassos event that was held in Barcelona on December 31, 2024.

Chebet improved her previous world record over the distance from 14:13 to 13:54, a feat that cemented her legacy as one of the best ever female runners.

Chebet entered her name into record books on May 25, 2024 when she produced a massive performance to set a new women’s 10,000 meters world record.

The talented athlete outpaced Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay in that memorable race and went on to cross the finishing line at 28:54.14.

She broke the previous world record of 29:01.03 that was set by Tsegay’s compatriot Letesenbet Gidey in 2021 and in the process became the first woman ever to dip under 29.00.0.

Lastly, Chebet delivered an impeccable performance on Saturday, July 5, 2025, when she became the only woman in history to run a 5000m race in under 14:00.00.

The athlete, who is nicknamed the “Smiling Assassin” ran the race of her life that saw her cross the finishing line in a world record time of 13:58.06 (not yet ratified), which was a few seconds faster than the former mark of 14:00.21 that set by Tsegay in 2023.

Her finishing kick was too powerful for her opponents like Agnes Ngetich and Tsegay to withstand.

These four world records implies that Chebet is one of the best runners of her generation and she deserves more respect.
