- Faith Kipyegon set a new 1500m world record of 3:48.68 at the Eugene Diamond League on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
- Kipyegon disclosed after the race that she was confident of breaking the 1500m world record after the Nike Breaking4 Project.

When Kenyan icon Faith Kipyegon broke the 1500m world record at the Eugene Diamond League 2025, many people watched in awe.
But for Kipyegon, who continues to inspire young girls around the world, the monstrous performance did not come as a surprise.
As stated by Kipyegon, she expected to do something special at the Prefontaine Classic after the Nike Breaking4 mile attempt.

“This was the time that I was expecting, like while I was in Paris, I said it is still possible to run under 3:49.00. And I am so grateful.
I thank God, I thank my management, I thank my coach, all the supporting systems who have been supporting me all through this journey. So, it feels amazing,” she stated shortly after the race.
The experienced runner switched on the gears in the final stages of the epic race to improve her world record from 3:49.04 to 3:48.68 in a day in which Kenyan women starred in various categories.

Kipyegon was followed by her Ethiopian opponent Diribe Welteji and Jessica Hull of Australia. Welteji and Hull crossed the finishing line at 3:51.44 and 3:52.67 in that order.
Faith Kipyegon says Nike Breaking4 Project preparations helped her lower the 1500m world record
When asked about the primary difference between her former 1500m world record set at the 2024 Paris Diamond League and her latest historic mark, she cited her preparations for the Nike Breaking4 Project.
“I would say I think the change was like, I was preparing for something special, which was to run under four minutes in the mile. And I pushed myself towards getting better and better in the 1500m, So, I knew it was possible to still run under 3:49.00.
I am so grateful to God that I made it today, because I talked about it last week. And here I am breaking the world record, yeah, I’m so happy,” replied Kipyegon.
Consistency is key, says Faith Kipyegon after Prefontaine Classic 2025 victory
The runner, who has won numerous gold medals for Kenya since making her debut more than a decade ago, also revealed some of the things that she is doing right to take her career to another level.

According to her, consistency, discipline and following what Coach Patrick Sang tells her, has helped her to become a better runner.
Lastly, Kipyegon ended by stating that she is in the right direction towards the Tokyo World Athletics Championships where she will be aiming to defend her title.
