“I was so happy for Faith. You know, Faith has been a close friend to me, and before I even came to run at the warm-up track, she told me, ‘You have to go for it.’ Then I told her, ‘You have to go for it.’ So, before we even came to the track, she told me, ‘You know I am running last, and you are running first, before me.’ So, I told her, ‘I will run and come and watch you.’
I am so happy for her after attempting the sub-4, and now she believed in herself and said, ‘After running sub-4, I saw that I can run a 1500m world record,’ and she made it. So, I am happy for her and myself,” she explained during a post-race press conference.

Kipyegon, who recently tried to become the first woman to run a mile in under four minutes at the Nike Breaking4 Project, produced a spectacular display in the Diamond League meeting that was staged at the Hayward Field to lower her world record from 3:49.04 to 3:48.68.
The Kaptagat based speedster showed dust to her opponents in the final lap of the race as the spectators cheered her on.
The breathtaking display cemented her legacy as the greatest 1500m female runner of all time.

On the other hand, Chebet ran an amazing race to set a new 5000m world record of 13:58.06, smashing the previous mark of 14:00.21 that was set by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay at the 2023 Diamond League final. She also became the first woman to dip under 14:00.00.
The excellent performances from Chebet and Kipyegon makes them the favorites to medal in the 5000m and 1500m respectively at the upcoming Tokyo World Athletics Championships.
