- Formerly known as the Africa Women’s Championship, this prestigious tournament will feature 12 national teams, divided into three groups, competing in 26 matches across six venues in five host cities.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024) is scheduled to kick off on the weekend of 5 July, culminating in the grand finale on 26 July 2025 in Morocco.
Originally slated for 2024, the tournament was rescheduled to accommodate the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Formerly known as the Africa Women’s Championship, this prestigious competition will feature 12 nations, divided into three groups, competing across 26 matches in six venues spanning five host cities.
The competing nations include reigning champions Banyana Banyana of South Africa, host nation Morocco, Zambia, East Africa’s representative Tanzania, DR Congo, Senegal, nine-time titleholder Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, Botswana, Ghana, and Mali.

WAFCON 2024 tournament format
Similar to the structure of the FIFA World Cup and the old UEFA Champions League, the 12 national teams have been drawn into three groups (Groups A, B, and C), each comprising four teams.
- The top two teams from each group will automatically advance to the quarter-finals, joined by the two best third-placed teams.
- These eight qualifiers will compete in a single-elimination format, progressing through the knockout rounds until two finalists emerge.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a 100% increase in the winners’ purse for WAFCON 2024 and a 45% boost in the total prize fund, now standing at USD 3,475,000 (approx. KSh 448.8 million).
