FKF Women’s Cup
  • Kibera Soccer Women defeated Vihiga Queens 1–0 to win the 2024/25 FKF Women’s Cup on Saturday, June 28, at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
  • Stellah Adhiambo emerged as the hero off the bench, scoring the decisive goal to secure the victory.
  • Kibera Soccer Women become only the second team to win the FKF Women’s Cup, breaking Ulinzi Starlets’ three-year reign since the tournament’s inception.

Stella Adhiambo came off the bench to inspire Kibera Soccer Women to a historic 1-0 victory over Vihiga Queens, securing the 2024/25 FKF Women’s Cup at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru on Saturday afternoon.

Her decisive goal in the final minutes sealed the title for Kibera, earning them their maiden crown and halting Ulinzi Starlets’ three-year dominance.

Kibera controlled much of the match, creating numerous chances, but struggled to convert until Adhiambo’s timely intervention.

The breakthrough goal also served as redemption after last season’s heartbreaking defeat to Ulinzi Starlets in the final.

With this triumph, Kibera becomes only the second team to clinch the FKF Women’s Cup, ending Ulinzi’s monopoly on the silverware.

For Vihiga Queens, this was their second final since 2021, having fallen short against Ulinzi Starlets in their last appearance.

Their quest for a maiden title continues after a disallowed goal ruled offside denied them a potential breakthrough in a tightly contested clash.

Match Highlights

Both sides started the match with high intensity. Kibera created two clear early chances, including a shot from Maximila Robi that narrowly sailed over the bar.

Vihiga responded in the 11th minute when Ukiru Mideri’s effort was parried by Kibera goalkeeper Khayati Vivian.

The rebound fell to Cherono, who missed from close range, earning only a corner that yielded no result.

Faith Mboya nearly opened the scoring for Kibera after receiving a pinpoint cross from Lilian Mmboga, but her attempt went off target.

Vihiga once again believed they had scored through Cherono, but the goal was chalked off due to a foul in the build-up.

Just before halftime, Anna Arusi attempted a long-range effort after spotting Vihiga keeper Merci Akoth off her line, but the shot flew over the bar. The first half ended goalless, with both teams wasting valuable opportunities.

The second half resumed with the same fervor.

Kibera maintained their dominance, pressing hard for the opener. In the 57th minute, Mboya burst down the left wing and delivered a low pass to Mmboga, who, with only the keeper to beat, missed the target.

Vihiga’s custodian Merci Akoth remained resolute, pulling off a series of saves, including a critical stop to deny Mboya after a well-timed run into the box. Despite relentless pressure, the deadlock remained until the dying minutes.

In the 90th minute, Kibera finally broke through. Mboya, again instrumental from the left wing, sent a low cross into the area that bypassed Vihiga’s defense.

Super-sub Stella Adhiambo met it with a crisp volley, burying the ball into the back of the net and igniting celebrations.

Her strike not only secured victory but crowned Kibera Soccer Women the 2024/25 FKF Women’s Cup champions.
