- Madagascar defeated Kenya Morans 12-14 in a highly contested Main Cup semifinal of the 2025 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s Cup on Sunday, June 22, at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mauritius.
- Madagascar will face South Africa in the Main Cup final, while Kenya will take on Zimbabwe in the third-place playoff.
Madagascar pulled off a stunning comeback to deny the Kenya Morans a spot in the 2025 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s Cup final, narrowly defeating them 12-14 on Sunday afternoon at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mauritius.
Maintaining their momentum from earlier matches, Madagascar began the encounter with intensity, launching multiple attacks in an effort to breach Kenya’s solid defensive line.
The Louis Kisia-coached Morans held their ground admirably, repelling wave after wave of early pressure.
Kenya gained a critical advantage when Madagascar were reduced to six menfollowing a yellow card.
The Morans capitalized almost immediately Henry Matoka exploited the space with a brilliant run down the left flank to touch down.

Although Jackson Siketi missed the conversion, Kenya took a 5–0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Madagascar regrouped and struck back.
They leveled the score with a converted try after spotting a lapse in Kenya’s defensive structure.
Barely moments later, they pounced again scoring a second converted try to surge ahead 14–5, turning the momentum decisively in their favor.
Kenya responded with a late try through Jackson Siketi to cut the deficit to 14–12, but time wasn’t on their side.
The final whistle confirmed their first defeat of the tournament and saw Madagascar book their place in the final having missed out in the 2024 edition.
Madagascar will now face South Africa in the championship clash, while the Kenya Morans will battle Zimbabwe in the third-place playoff for the bronze medal.

In another thrilling main cup semifinal, South Africa secured their place in the final for the third consecutive year after edging past a resilient Zimbabwe side, 19–12.
The match saw Zimbabwe nearly mount a spirited comeback in the second half.
Having narrowly missed out in the previous two main cup finals falling 17–12 to Kenya in 2023 and 20–17 to Uganda in 2024 the Springbok Sevens ‘A’ squad will now look to break that unfortunate streak and etch their name among the 2025 champions.
With a dominant campaign so far, they are determined to capture their second title since their triumph in 2014.
