- Agnes Ngetich has confirmed that she will compete in the 2025 Prefontaine Classic.
- The 2025 Prefontaine Classic will be used by the Athletics Kenya (AK) to select the women’s 5000m and men’s 10000m teams for the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
- Ngetich will lock horns with big names such as Beatrice Chebet, Gudaf Tsegay and Medina Eisa in this year’s Prefontaine Classic.
Fresh from her record-breaking performance at the Adizero Road to Records in Germany and sensational displays in the Grand Slam Track Series, Agnes Jebet Ngetich has confirmed her participation in Kenya’s World Athletics Championships 5000m women’s trials scheduled to take place at the Prefontaine Classic on July 5.
In an exclusive brief interview with SportPesa Blog, Ngetich disclosed that her main goal at the Prefontaine Classic will be to bag a ticket to represent Kenya in the Championship that is set to be held between September 13 and September 21 in Tokyo, Japan.
“Yes, I’ll take part. I am going to get a ticket for the World Championship,” replied Ngetich when asked whether fans should expect to see her in Eugene.
Ngetich further divulged that she is working hard in training to improve her speed ahead of the event.

Agnes Ngetich to face other superstars at 2025 Prefontaine Classic
Ngetich’s involvement makes this year’s 5000m showdown at the Prefontaine Classic more intriguing because a few weeks ago the organizers announced a stellar field.
The competitive field already had the likes of the reigning world record holder Gudaf Tsegay and her Ethiopian compatriot Medina Eisa.
Besides the Ethiopian duo, Kenya’s sensation Beatrice Chebet, who is enjoying a fantastic form at the moment, was also included.
Chebet, who is one of the favorites to win the race alongside Ngetich and Tsegay, heads to the Prefontaine Classic with enhanced confidence.
The 5000m Paris Olympic Games gold medalist recently missed a new world record by a whisker at the Rome Diamond League.

Her impressive time of 14:03.69 was very close to the current world record of 14:00.21 set at the 2023 Prefontaine Classic by Tsegay.
Similar to Chebet, Medina and Tsegay have also proven in the races that they have taken part this year that they are capable of performing at the highest level.
Therefore, Ngetich’s confirmation makes the 5000m race at the Prefontaine Classic a mouthwatering one, with a new world record being very likely.
