French Open prize money
  • There was over $64 million as French Open prize money to participants across both men’s and women’s competitions.
  • Carlos Alcaraz beat Jannik Sinner in the men’s competition while Coco Gauff beat Aryna Sabalenka in the women’s side.

Carlos Alcaraz produced an astonishing comeback on Sunday to clinch his second French Open title after saving three championship points to beat Jannik Sinner to the 2025 Roland Garros crown.

Reigning champion Alcaraz rallied from the brink of defeat to overcome world number one Sinner 4-6, 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (10/2) to clinch his fifth Grand Slam title after a gruelling five hours and 29 minutes.

The result saw the 22-year-old Spaniard remain unbeaten in five Grand Slam finals after snapping Sinner’s 20-match winning run at the majors.

In the women’s category, Coco Gauff battled back from a set down to beat world number one Aryna Sabalenka in a Grand Slam final for the second time with a dramatic victory in the French Open showpiece on Saturday.

The second-ranked American dug deep to claim a 6-7 (5/7), 6-2, 6-4 victory and her second major title after also defeating Sabalenka at the 2023 US Open.

The wins in Paris saw the two stars pocket millions of shillings which have been revealed.

How much is the French Open payout money?

The men’s and women’s singles winners this year will take home a prize of roughly $2.9 million (approximately Ksh 375,421,393).

Both Alcaraz and Gauff get the same prize money after their wins in the final.

Despite their losses, Sinner and Sabalenka will also not going home empty-handed. They will take home just shy of $1.5 million (circa Ksh 194,183,479) as the runner-up.

Semifinalists Novak Djokovic, Lorenzo Musetti, Iga Swiatek and Lois Boisson each pocketed over $750,000 (Ksh 97,091,739) for their efforts at Roland-Garros.

The quarterfinalists on both sides of the bracket, including Tommy Paul on the men’s side and Elina Svitolia on the women’s side, earned a little over $500,000 (Ksh 64,727,826). Even those who were knocked out in the Round of 16 each received a tick over $300,000 (Ksh 38,836,695).

The 129th edition of the French Open began on May 25 and runs until June 8.
