The organizers of this year’s Golden Gala Pietro Mennea have assembled a deep field that has talented athletes.

Some of the top athletes who will battle it out in the Rome Diamond League 2025 are Omanyala, Chebet, Tsegay, Fred Kerley, Timothy Cheruiyot, and Trayvon Bromell.

Others include Courtney Lindsey, Hirut Meshesha, Susan Ejore, Sevilla Paula and Ivorian Marie Josée Ta Lou-Smith.

The likes of Omanyala, Bromell and Lindsey will lock horns in the 100m men category while Cheruiyot is expected to fight for the top prize in the 1500m men discipline against runners such as his compatriots Brian Komen and Reynold Cheruiyot.

Meanwhile, the 5000m women’s race is arguably the biggest event at the Rome Diamond League 2025 due to the exciting talents that the organizers have assembled.

The reigning world record holder Tsegay, who set the current mark of 14:00.21 a few years ago, will face off with her main rivals Chebet once again this year.

Chebet is the favorite to shine in the race that also has big names such as Uganda’s Winnie Nanyondo since she is enjoying a brilliant form at the moment.

Speaking ahead of the crunch showdown, Chebet stated that she has done adequate preparations for Rome Diamond League 2025.

“Tomorrow, we expect to run well because I know everyone is ready. Everyone who is coming here is ready to race and everyone’s competing to make a win.

So, for me, I am ready. I am prepared mentally for everything. So, tomorrow, I hope for a good performance, good run, and having fun and enjoying the race,” she explained.

When asked whether the healthy rivalry between her and other athletes such as Tsegay could lead to a 5000m world record on Friday, Chebet stated that she expects her competitors to stick to their plans.

“Of course, there is rivalry between other athletes but for tomorrow everyone will run her own race. We expect good performance,” she commented.

What time/when will the Rome Diamond League 2025 start?

The 2025 Golden Gala Pietro Mennea is scheduled to kick off at 8:15 pm with the Pole Vault Women final and end at 11:49 pm with the 1500m women final.

The 100m men, 5000m women, 1500m men, and 200m women finals will take place at 11:38 pm, 10:31 pm, 10:16 pm and 11:13 pm in that order.
