Gor Mahia has officially unveiled the new date and venue for the much-anticipated second leg of the Mashemeji Derby against archrivals AFC Leopards.
In a statement shared on their social media platforms, Gor confirmed that the fiercely contested showdown will be staged on Monday, June 2 at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County.
Originally, the derby was scheduled for May 11 at either Kasarani Stadium or Nyayo Stadium.
However, both facilities were deemed unavailable as they are currently undergoing renovations in preparation for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) slated for August.
While it is unusual for this iconic clash to be held outside Nairobi, this move offers a silver lining for Gor Mahia.
The team boasts a strong support base in Western Kenya, particularly in Homa Bay, and the decision to host the match there is expected to draw enthusiastic local support.

With just three matches left in the season, the record league champions will be seeking for a crucial three points, potentially narrowing the gap to league leaders and bolstering their title ambitions.
Gor Mahia currently sits third on the table with 54 points, trailing Kenya Police FC who top the standings with 61 points.
If Kenya Police defeat Shabana FC that weekend, they could clinch the title. Gor Mahia, therefore, will be hoping for a stumble from the leaders while aiming to overcome their bitter rivals, Ingwe, on derby day.
This highly charged fixture comes shortly after Gor Mahia parted ways with head coach Sinisa Mihic on mutual terms, following his oversight of the first leg.
The club is now under the interim stewardship of Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno and Michael Nam, who are determined to steer the team toward its 22nd league crown and third in a row.
