  • Sofapaka head coach Ezekiel Akwana revealed how they managed to outclass Charles Okere’s side in what was their biggest win of the season.

Sofapaka head coach Ezekiel Akwana has lamented how his tactical superiority over Charles Okere guided his team to a resounding 7-1 triumph against Tusker FC on Sunday evening at the Dandora Stadium.

Sofapaka overwhelmed the 12-time top-flight champions with a flurry of goals, effectively extinguishing their aspirations of clinching the 2024/25 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title, a trophy they had been determined to secure since the start of the season.

Jack Ong’anya was the star of the show, netting an impressive hat-trick, while the electrifying forward Edward ‘Ondimo’ Omondi bagged a brace.

Dalvin Otieno and Rodgers Kipkemoi also found the back of the net, as Tusker’s only goal came from an unfortunate own goal by Edward Olok.

As a result, the comprehensive win propelled Sofapaka back to winning ways after recent setbacks, lifting them to seventh position on the league table with 43 points.

Speaking after the match, Batoto Ba Mungu boss Akwana praised his team’s tactical execution and explained how they managed to outmaneuver r the Brewers.

He noted that Tusker lacked intensity and failed to counter Sofapaka’s well-drilled strategy, which they had really executed in the training session.

I was absolutely confident going into this match. I had said earlier that not only would we win, but we would do so convincingly – with more than three goals,” Akwana stated.

We executed our game plan to perfection. Tusker did not bring anything unpredictable to the pitch. We controlled the first half entirely, scoring four goals, and added three more in the second half, while they only managed one through an own goal.”

The former Posta Rangers and AFC Leopards tactician took pride in his superior strategic prowess, boldly asserting that he possessed a greater tactical acumen than his counterpart Charles Okere.

I had analyzed Tusker thoroughly. To be honest, Charles Okere is not as tactically quick-witted as I am – and I say that with full confidence. I anticipated that we would score freely. While I didn’t expect seven, I knew we would get at least three, and we did even more,” Akwana added.

Sofapaka seeking three points in the remaining two fixtures

Looking ahead, Akwana emphasized that his team would focus solely on securing three points in their remaining fixtures against Posta Rangers and Bidco United to achieve their seasonal target before shifting attention to the next campaign.

“In the remaining matches, we are determined to secure the three points needed to hit our season target. Once that’s done, our attention will turn to preparations for the next campaign,” he concluded.
