Ethiopian runner Medina Eisa once again proved why she is one of the highly rated female athletes in the world at the moment.

Eisa produced a scintillating performance on Sunday, May 18, 2025 to bag the 10K Great Manchester Run title.

Eisa, who celebrated her 20th birthday in January, approached the race in a tactical way. She ran closer to the leading pack that had the likes of fellow countrywoman Gotytom Gebreslase and the Kenyan duo of Hellen Obiri and Vivian Cheruiyot.

Medina Eisa overwhelms her opponents at 2025 Great Manchester Run

As the proceedings went on, the reigning 5000m under 20 world record holder decided to pull away from her East African counterparts and never looked back.

The talented runner, who has been backed by many experts to dominate the track and field events in the near future, continued with the fast pace until the end.

Eisa crossed the finishing line in a time of 30:42 with Emily Sisson and the 2024 champion Gebreslase settling for the second and third positions.

Sisson crossed the finishing line in 31:03 while Gebreslase clocked 31:11 to beat Obiri to the remaining podium position. The Kenyan managed a time of 31:16.

On the other hand, Cheruiyot, who similar to Obiri competed in the 2025 Boston Marathon a few weeks ago, came in sixth in 31:55.

Selemon Barega completes Ethiopian double at 2025 Great Manchester Run after the win by Eisa

The Ethiopians also ran away with the men’s Manchester Great Run 10K title thanks to Selemon Barega heroics.

Barega, who won a 10000m gold medal for Ethiopia in the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, cut the tape at.

He was followed by Uruguay’s Santiago Catrofe and one-time winner Vincent Ngetich of Kenya. Catrofe and Ngetich finished the race in 27:52 and 27:58 respectively.

After today’s dominance, Eisa will shift her focus to the track events where she is expected to feature a couple of Diamond League meetings including the eagerly awaited Prefontaine Classic on July 5.
