Junior Starlets players celebrating after 2024 world Cup qualification

Junior Starlets head coach Mildred Cheche has named a 23-player squad set to travel to Uganda for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup second-round qualifier against Uganda.

The first leg will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Nakivubo Stadium, with kickoff at 4:00 PM EAT.

Cheche selected this squad from the 51-player provisional list, blending emerging talent with several familiar faces from the previous qualification campaign, where they made history as the first Kenyan team to qualify for the World Cup.

Notable inclusions are Butere Girls midfielder Halima Imbachi, who will captain the team, joined by Mitshel Waithera, Lorine Ilavonga, Jenevive Mithel, Elizabeth Ochaka, Joy Angela Valencia, Joan Ogola, and Lindy Weey.

However, several key players who impressed in the 2024 squad, including Marion Serenge, Lorna Faith, Diana Onyango, and Quinter Adhiambo, will be absent, as some have been promoted to the U20 team.

Building on their historic World Cup debut in the Dominican Republic last year, the team is eager to leverage that experience and secure an early advantage in the two-legged tie.

Coach Cheche expressed confidence in her squad, emphasizing their resolve to qualify for back-to-back World Cups.
