Shabana FC failed to use the home advantage to their benefit on Sunday evening when they played to a barren draw with a struggling Mathare United side.
The SportPesa Sponsored club played an exciting game but did not convert the chances that they created in the clash that was staged at the Gusii Stadium.
Shabana’s first chance of the game came in the 16th minute when Daglas Mokaya linked up with Dennis Okoth but the latter did not react quickly, allowing the Mathare United players to clear the ball to safety.
Two minutes later, the visitors’ backline did an excellent job to prevent a goal scoring opportunity when Okoth unleashed a shot towards the goal.

Although Mathare United also had a few chances in the first half, they were not clinical enough, thus forcing the two clubs to head to the half time break with nothing to smile about.

Shabana came back more energized in the second half and tried their best to improve the mood of the thousands of their supporters who had parked the stadium to capacity. However, Mathare United stood firm and protected their goalkeeper like a wall of steel.
In a bid to add more firepower to his squad, the Shabana’s head coach Peter Okidi made a couple of changes in the 51st minute.
He replaced George Onyango and Daglas Mokaya with Brian Marvin and Kevin Omundi. Despite the change, Shabana did not find a breakthrough.
Okidi made another double change in the 73rd minute, this time round bringing in Austine Odongo and Derrick Oketch at the expense of Okoth and his midseason transfer window signing Keith Imbali.
The substitutions slightly enhanced Shabana’s attack and they nearly had a goal in the 81st minute when Odongo received a pass from Omundi inside the danger area and fired a shot that was saved by Mathare United custodian Michael Wanyika.
At the end, Mathare United reaped the fruits of their hard work as they managed to collect an essential one point that is likely to help them avoid relegation at the end of the season.
The Nairobi based club increased their tally to 22 points and in the process leapfrogged Posta Rangers and FC Talanta and returned to their 14th position in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) standings.
Meanwhile, Shabana, who have collected 29 points since the start of the season, dropped from the eighth to the seventh position.
