Edward Omondi scored the decisive second goal as ten-man Sofapaka triumphed 2-0 over KCB on Saturday afternoon, February 15, at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County.
Thanks to Jack Ong’onya, who broke the deadlock in the first half, as the hosts secured three points, ending a four-match winless streak.
The Bankers, who were hoping to extend their winning run following a 2-0 victory over Murang’a SEAL last weekend, saw their momentum halted.
The victory sees Ezekiel Akwana’s side move up to eighth place in the standings with 28 points, while KCB could be overtaken in fourth place by Bandari FC, should they manage to defeat Talanta FC.
Additionally, a win by AFC Leopards would see KCB drop further to sixth place.
Moreover, the loss severely diminishes KCB’s chances in the title race, as they now trail league leaders Tusker FC and Police FC by six points, both on 38 points with a game in hand.
Sofapaka created several opportunities in the first half, with Jack Ong’onya’s shot in the 7th minute and Joseph Kuloba’s attempt shortly failed to give them an early lead.

However, after multiple attempts, Ong’onya finally broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, giving Sofapaka the advantage at the break.
The pressure in the first half led Patrick Odhiambo to make early substitutions, with Farraj Ominde and Dennis Otanga came on to replace Derrick Otieno and December Kisakah.
Patrick Otieno and Vincent Ondabu were also brought in for Matthias Isagoli and James Kinyanjui shortly thereafter. Despite these changes, Sofapaka maintained control across the pitch.
Just three minutes into the second half, Rodgers and Bramuel Simiyu failed to capitalize on Baron Ochieng’s cross before Simiyu was substituted for Edward Omondi.
However, Sofapaka were dealt a setback in the 67th minute when Charles Junior was shown a red card for a reckless tackle, reducing them to ten men.
This gave KCB an opportunity to equalize or even snatch a winning goal.

But just moments later, the hosts sealed the win, with super sub Edward Omondi making the most of his opportunity to score Sofapaka’s second goal.
KCB, despite their chances, were unable to find the back of the net and will now regroup as they prepare to face Ulinzi Stars in their next fixture.
Elsewhere, Kayci Odhiombo scored the match-winning goal for AFC Leopards in their 2-1 victory over Mara Sugar at Awendo Stadium.
Peter Maker opened the scoring in the 17th minute, heading in a well-placed free kick from Ovella Ochieng. In the second half, Noah Jagongo equalized for Mara Sugar, but the hosts fought back, doubling their lead to secure the win.
The win lifted them to fourth place on the table with 33 points, extending their unbeaten streak to five matches.
