Alphonce Omija has expressed confidence in Gor Mahia FC lifting the 24/25 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) title at the end of the season.
The defending champions started the 2024/2025 season slowly but are steadily finding form.
The SportPesa-sponsored side occupies the third spot at the moment with 34 points, four behind their fellow title contenders Kenya Police FC and Tusker FC.
However, the Sinisa Mihic-coached side still have a chance to close the gap since they have a game in hand against their long-term foes AFC Leopards.

Omija scores in two matches in a row
The side which boasts of gifted players came from behind in their latest game to beat Mathare United 2-1 in an entertaining match that was played at the Dandora Stadium on Saturday.
The hosts Mathare United took the lead in the 16th minute via their skipper Elli Asieche before Omija found an equalizer for Gor Mahia in the 35th minute.
The defending champions scored their winning goal in the 76th minute when Enock Morrison converted a penalty that was awarded to them after Samuel Kapen was fouled inside Mathare United’s penalty box.
Speaking exclusively to SportPesa Blog after the clash, Omija was delighted to score in two consecutive games for the first time in his career.
“First of all, I would like to thank God. I am happy. The goal gives me confidence and I hope more will come inshallah,” he stated.
The talented player had played an instrumental role in Gor Mahia’s 2-1 win over Posta Rangers two weeks ago when he netted an injury time winner to ensure K’Ogalo gathered the maximum points.

Omija’s opinion on the FKFPL title race
When asked about what he thinks about the hotly contested title race, Omija stated that they will do their best to retain their title.
“We approached the game knowing that if we collect three points, it will help us a lot to close the gap. We will see the outcome of the clash between the two top clubs in the table and strategize on our next game.
We just need to focus. I can say we are starting a new thing. So, whatever will come up, we need to work with it and see what the future holds for us. The most important thing is to win the upcoming games,” he explained.
The fixture between Kenya Police FC and Tusker, which was also played on Saturday ended in a barren draw.
The above outcome was a relief to the Gor Mahia camp since it gave them a chance to move closer to the summit of the FKFPL table.
Sinisa Mihic’s impact at the club
Omija ended by revealing that the players will adapt to the tactics that their new coach has brought and get better with time.
“Everything has gone well. All the stakeholders in the club have pushed themselves. The players have tried to apply what the coach has taught us and at least most of them have worked in the game, though we will continue to adapt with time,” offered the 22-year-old.
Up next for Gor Mahia is an encounter against Tusker United scheduled to be played on Sunday, February 16.
