The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has announced the dates for the Safari 7s 2025 edition that will make its return to Nairobi County having been held outside the city for the first time last year in Machakos County.
According to the official announcement, the tournament is scheduled to take place from 10-12 October with the venue yet to be confirmed.
This will be the 27th edition of the tournament since its inception in 1996, and it has been held every year except for 2020 and 2022, when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 crisis and logistics challenges respectively.

The venue for this prestigious tournament has remained consistent for many years, with RFUEA Grounds on Ngong Road serving as the main location for 18 of the tournaments.
Moi International Stadium Kasarani is the second most frequent venue, hosting the Safari Sevens four times in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.
Nyayo Stadium also hosted the tournament in 2015 and 2016.
Who won the Safari 7s in 2024?
In 2024, Shujaa emerged as the winners for the third consecutive time, defeating Shogun Rugby 12-0 in a repeat of the 2023 final.
This victory followed their titles in 2021 and 2023, making them a successful team with 12 overall wins in the tournament’s history.
Costa Rica Barbarians claimed victory in the women’s category, taking over from the Uganda Lady Cranes, who were the champions in 2023.

The 2024 tournament saw a total of 15 teams, with 10 men’s teams and five women’s teams.
Shujaa was joined by Zimbabwe, Lions Rugby, Qatar, a Varsity Select squad, Uganda, and the 2024 SportPesa Sevens National Circuit winners Kenya Harlequins, Shogun, Morans, and Red Wailers.
In the women’s category, Kenya Lionesses faced off against Shogun, Uganda Cranes, Kenya Cubs, and a Uganda Select team in a round-robin format.
